Re: New Tactical Rifle Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15 (open MSR topic)

Yea front sight looks great.  I did some digging online searching, "M&P15 front swivel" and found some forum posts elsewhere that confirmed that the two holes under my gas block are exactly what I thought they were for to different kinds of sling swivel hooks.  The larger hole is for the standard AR push release sling swivel and the smaller one is for the 10-32 standard screw that a typical over the shoulder sling can attach to.  I put two and two together and took off the small swivel screw on my inline muzzleloader and it screws in perfectly fine.  I removed the hook off of an existing camo sling I use for regular guns and hooked it on.  I now can slide the velcro strap through it to secure the fwd wrap around of the 3 point sling.  All without a $150 quadrail install.

I may still get the quadrail upgrade for other attachments.  I am surprised someone as new to it all as me thought those holes were sling swivel hooks but the so-called, "AR Geek" said they weren't for attaching anything.  The smaller has a 10-32 screw threads you can visibly see it is made to have something go in there.

The AR geek's first job is to sell you something... Giving out information is only a means to an end.

True, he seemed knowledgeable about many other aspects of AR-15s. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he might be just "ignorant". Now. Now I Need a replacement for screw to my inline muzzleloader and the hook. If I get a quadrail installed it be nice $150.

I may go back and "educate" him...

To me its bad bizness to lie to me to make a sale. If I think you lied to me intentionally J won't reshop your store an I will tell everyone you lied.

Philip, would you have confidence in parts made in Israel?  I tend to believe their products would be of high quality. I bought two mags from command arms made in Israel.

I am not familiar with "Command Arms".

I know that "IWI" (Israeli Weapons Industries; formerly Israeli Military Industries) made the Uzi, and Galil rifles and are Top Notch.

Re: New Tactical Rifle Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15 (open MSR topic)

Post by joecool on February 16th 2014, 5:02 pm

Just got back from a couple of days with our police officer son and his wife. During our last visit, he mentioned that he was saving up for his own AR-15. Seems the department's older weapons have been known to jam. Not a good thing. A craftsman needs good tools, the sooner the better. So I slipped him the money.

Yesterday, he took me to the range to fire it. Had fun. I'm no expert. I can't even remember the manufacturer's name. My son always buys the best, though. He was hitting a 300-yard target with a red dot scope. But I beat him with his .260, hitting 7 of 8 at 550 yards. Joe sniper (with a small "s")

I would expect police depts and even military to use weapons of highest quality but at the lowest prices. I've never had a jam, ftl, or fte yet. Depends on magazines and their quality too.

Excellent marksmanship Joe. Now with a sling on mine I'm concentrating on a scope and then a quad rail.

I kind-of think that is like believing that because Magpul ProMags are made in the US, that USA-Brand magazines are just as good.

The following are reviews of Command Arms Magazines:

I have three ARs and they wouldn't drop free in any of them. They're on ok mag, but let's face it...we got spoiled on the PMAGs. They're still king.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

By JUSTIN

It seems like a good mag so far. i have not put extensive use on it yet, though. The only large dissapointmet is that, at least with mine, the counter on the bottom is about three rounds behind the one on the back. I thought they would both read the same number. Not a huge fan of it, but its not bad.

I did notice the "CAA" Logo for the Magazines.

I have a Command Arms Stock "Riser" for my 6.8mm AR-15. It's OK, but the rubber plugs for the battery compartments fell out and got lost. Not very "tactical".

You gotta a point on the Israeli made assumption.

Maybe I'll just use those two mags for range time and depend on the pmag and the 2 GI mags for a WROL situation or self-defense. At least the reviews didn't list any FTL or FTE or jams.

Good job, Phillip.

It does a good job of showing the "lock time" between bolt-lock and ignition.

Also, I have never seen a fireball like that before, except in magnum handguns.

Lastly, I wonder if any Low-Flying-Aircraft were endangered by that Second Guy shooting.

Laughing Laughing Laughing
Truly made me lol on that one. I was also wondering where those rounds were heading.

Reminds me of years ago when I was shooting my Mosin Nagant and checked my target after five shots to find none had even hit paper... Looked at the gun and realized I had forgotten to slide the rear sight back to 200m after showing someone how it worked. It was still slid forward to 800m. I had one of those cold sweat moments when I realized I'd been hurtling steel core full metal jackets way high...

Not to get too serious, but there's a life lesson there. You can be sincerely trying to aim your life properly and do good things, but if your "perspective" is incorrect then you'll only end up being sincerely wrong...

That's an excellent point, and very well-stated.

That example (with an old military rifle with a slide or ladder sight) could make a good teaching point to the boys on a Field Day.

It was an OK video, but kind-of stupid to have a magazine of live ammunition in a rifle that you are using for demonstration purposes.

There's a lot of other ones that try to dispell myths. Its good he never pulled the charging handle to chamber a round. Is there a difference in using a filled mag compared to empty?  I keep my mag full and round chambered in my pistol at all times.
