Re: August Thread
Let me see... um... pain and suffering starvation aches having all kinds of horrible things inflected on one versus being in Heaven with God in a place that is far beyond our imagination.
Yup that settles it. I am going to do my very best to live as long as I possibly can in this hell hole called earth...grin? When one really thinks it through... it's almost funny.
I am a believer. I believe that when I die will go to the Father. For me it's really that simple. One thing you need to keep in mind. If a terrorist comes in to kill innocent people. I will stomp him into the ground with every means possible I have at the time. If I die in the process for me it is gain.
Yet to try and preserve my life here on this earth often at the waste of precious ministry time it just doesn't add up in my book. For those of you that it does add up then by all means PREP AWAY. I do strongly suggest you put heaven one hand and life on this earth in another hand and then think about it.
I have work to do here yet. Part of that work is getting 200 plus people to come out to Stockton Lake hear 2 gospel messages and have a chance at a salvation message before they watch 80 boys and a few girls paddle across a cove in a cardboard boat with a 50% sink ratio and we laugh and carry on yet ministry is done. That to me is being the best prepper that one can be.
I love you guys no matter what. I also find it interesting to watch programs on guns, preppers and many things inbetween. It's interesting to me.
Now we all feel better. You guys got a sermon and I got to cool off in the truck after climbing 8 poles hanging in a stringby around some old 70 year old lead cable. 1000 feet of line hung. It's hot.
It's all good.

We're cool Bruce.
I see your pov Mark but its a balance of instinct vs faith. I know you don't have a death wish as you said you would fight the terrorist instead of volunteering to be his first victim. If you live longer you can have more time to do ministry.
Love ya Mark its good to have these conversations once in awhile.

They asked me to be in management at serveral places. I looked at them and said. You guys work another 20 hours a week then I do on average sometimes 40 hours more a week is that right? They say yes. You guys make less money than I do if I work the same amount of hours as you do right? They say yes. You guys have to answer the phone all hours of the day right? They say yes. I say. I will consider your offer. BIG OLE GRIN!

Re: August Thread
My daughter turned 9 last week so I decided to take her horseback riding for her birthday. We'll be heading out on the trail tomorrow at 11am. She's super excited because she loves horses! I'm excited because it's nice to find something for just the two of us to do. It's easy with the boys because we do so much together all the time, from working on the property to being on the baseball team together, RR, etc. It's a little harder with her, so I hope we have a good time tomorrow. Definitely want to build good memories and have a strong relationship with her as she grows up. It won't be long and my chance to build relationship with her will have passed, so now is the time!

Re: August Thread
Good chance to set up her expectations of what her future potential husband should be like. Father is important example to both genders.

Re: August Thread
I was reading up on horse sizes compared to rider size and came across an organization that was cited in one of the news stories called National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, or NAAFA.
I've never heard of such! But apparently they've done a pretty good job of adjusting people's thinking here in America since they started in 1969!
Just a little bit of useless information for your Saturday morning reading pleasure....

Had a good time riding horses with the girl this morning! It was a little awkward at first to be up on my steed, but then I got comfortable and had a good ride. She has been beaming the rest of the day.

Re: August Thread
For the past few Sundays as I drop wife off at Sams I peruse Gander Mtn. This week I handled the Sig P226 and it has a sweet slide that moves like nobody's bizness! First time handling a hammer fired semi with decocker and short trigger reset for quick double tap close shots. One was bi-tone and an all black tactical version the salesman said was carried by the Navy Seals. Still love my XDm compact for ccw but the P226 would be a sweet gun for the range, home defense, or to OC.

Re: August Thread
The wifey loves the Sig P238 I got her for Christmas. She didn't like shooting at all until she shot that gun. She still doesn't do a ton of shoorting, but that's more due to the fact that she's swamped with commitments rather that not wanting to. I think when I finally get the range built she'll probably do more shooting. Still trying to figure out exactly where I want to put it....

Re: August Thread
The best ranges in the Northern Hemisphere face to the NORTH.
That way, the sun is never in your eyes.
By the way, due to the lay of the land and having houses to the North & East, mine faces WEST. A bit of a Bugaboo during late afternoon.

Claymore, I figured the range facing the North was going to be a joke ya know in the event of another war of northern aggression.

Re: August Thread
This will be my new car Wed. Its a Lexus RX330 2006 crossover. It has backup camera, onboard nav, the works. Due to issues with student loans I had a bad score. This dealer and his company took into account my time at my fulltime job, I have part time job, on time payments at last lien holder and will slide me into the Lexus for $9999 plus tax and tags. My payment will be only $6 higher than my Saturn and my down payment is $400. For little more than a car payment I'm into a better vehicle. Its my first official import car.

Well it looks nice and I bet it rides really well, but I thought you were going to get something along the lines of a '78 Bronco.... That thing there will be screwed after an EMP. What? Did you justify this purchase just because it'll ride smoother, get better gas mileage, and have a ton more creature comforts than an old Bronco??? Well congratulations and I hope you guys enjoy it! It's always fun to get a new ride.

Yeah.
My range is pretty-much useless there, unless we get attacked by Louisiana.

I say, go ahead and practice under non-optimal conditions on the range. You can't always count on having the sun behind you if caught in a bad situation.

3.77" of rain in 3 hours! 6th wettest day (locally) since record keeping began in 1863!
lots of flooding. my normal commute takes 25-30 minutes depending on the time of day. Today it took me an hour to get home because there were so many roads closed due to flooding or accidents

We got a little rain the past couple days, but we've been terribly dry this summer. It's really been tough on the farmers. Of course getting almost 4" in 3 hours is really bad too. Just washes all the dirt away. Need a steady rain

Try explaining to the wife 40 year old car that runs on Fred's feet lol. Maybe I'll just have to rely on my bicycle. A bov would be a good side project.
