Re: August Thread
A week or so ago, I shared an F-Troop skit that my boys performed at a campout. Just read that the actress who played Wrangler Jane in the TV show passed away. Sorry for the family's loss.
She was only 17 the first year of the series, so they had to delay her romantic involvement with the captain until she turned 18. I'm thinking they don't do that in Hollywood anymore.

Wrangler Jane.
Every adolescent boy in the 1960's had a crush on her.

Re: August Thread
Interesting phone call from my twin brother in Arizona. He's a retired Navy E-8/retired county health inspector who has Parkinson's. His wife has had multiple operations on her knees and shoulder joints. That didn't stop them from bringing her ill brother into their home to care for the last couple of years. He was once a Christian who fell into the gay lifestyle and has AIDS. The rest of the family, many who are close by, haven't checked up on him for years.
Among other ailments, he lost his hearing and 95% of his sight. He gave himself back to God while with them, and God gave his hearing back. Recently, he got a call from a lawyer stating that the dad who raised him (died a long time ago, and was a wretch of a human being) wasn't his real father. The deceased bio dad has left him millions.
Well, he wants to buy his sister a home in our neck of the woods and move the three of them up here. The home in AZ will be given to one of my brother's sons. This all happens a year from now. My mom, who lives 5 minutes from me, will be ecstatic.

Wow.... That's quite a story! Amazing how quickly things can change when God steps in. Oh that we would just learn to always trust Him regardless of how things look at the time.

Re: August Thread
Been a busy week.
I (and many of my coworkers) have been feeling rather unkindly towards my employer of late. Long days, erratic schedules, poor management, unsafe conditions (at times) My supervisors position has been vacant for 3 months now & this has not helped.
But things seem to be on the upswing. The main office has acknowledged that there has been a "breakdown in management" (among the various managers) at our location.
I had my annual review this week; during which I had a conversation with the fleet manager (my supervisors supervisor) about things we are being asked to do that are unsafe. He agreed with me that this should not be. (I have already been hurt once this year doing one of these things)
He has agreed to to change these things. The company has hired a new Logistics Manager who is in training at the main office & will take over here in a another week.
My review was 100% positive & I was issued a $1.50 an hour raise starting next week.
Feeling more kindly towards them now
Awesome news! God is good!

Re: August Thread
We had our back to school bash last Sunday afternoon and a lot of new kids showed up between boys for RR and girls for AHG. Actually there were a ton of girls, but a few new boys too. I'm anxious to see who all comes tomorrow afternoon to the first official outpost meeting of the new year. If everyone comes who showed interest last week, then we would have 4-RK's, 5-DR's, 2-AR's, and 4-ER's. Also picked up a couple new commanders too, so that will be nice having more help.

This past Fri I got off from my pt time job and went shooting with a friend and bis coworker.
He wanted to test out his new homemade Noveske upper w/BCM lower AR-15. I brought my newly acquired Ak-47 that he sold to me to afford parts for his AR-15. I also brought along my Ruger 10/22 50th anniv edition. Enjoy the pics and videoz below.

Re: August Thread
I was worn out when we qualified for the NRA small bore rifle 22. 100 rounds in about 4 hours was way more than I wanted to shoot.
3 rounds and I would have been good for another 5 years. GRIN! I am so glad were not all the same. Enjoyed the videos.

Re: August Thread
Definitely true mark. We also did target practice with generic Mtn Dew called Mt Explosion. How fitting a name. We used them cans like clay pigeons for shotgun.
One interesting fact was that Mr Kal I'll call him made no $ on the AK-47's design since he was a Russian government employee and they had no patent office. After the cold war he made $ on special guest appearances and signing guns and giving autographs.

It CAN be done, but it is definitely pushing it (maybe takes some of the fun out of it, too).
It generally takes my kids 3 or 4 Saturdays to win each level of the NRA Shooting Awards. I find that they are pretty worn out after 3 or 4 targets (and that is assuming that the kids don't shoot any non-qualifying targets).

Re: August Thread
I think kids as well as adults prefer non traditional paper targets like metal swinging, pop up targets, and exploding pop or water jugs and cans. We also demolished old cinder blocks with AR and AK.

Re: August Thread
That may be fine & fun, but there are no NRA Awards or R/R Merits for such shooting.
That is why shooting is called a Discipline.
I have had some of my boys advance as high as NRA Sharpshooter, Bar #3. With "Pro-Marksman" being Level #1, they have advanced to Level #7.

Re: August Thread
Thats fine I'm definitely into making it a discipline but as Mark tells us from time to time its not all about awards and merits for many boys. A combination of both is needed to challenge and excite the boys and men too.

Re: August Thread
When we started out we had like 22 guys enrolled into the small bore when it was all done and said 13 maybe 15 completed all it took. It was a tough with that big of a group. We did it but it was tough.
The gun nut commanders (included many of my closest ranger commanders/friends want to do another one) I can go for it again if needed. We were on a controlled range with a range officer and it was strick. It was good to see the discipline that was taught there though. It made me feel much safer knowing that no horse play was going to be going on there.
Yup... sometimes its just fun to blast stuff up.
Each one has their niche of a good time. Make it fun for the boys and make it happen.

Re: August Thread
Definitely has to have tight controls whether its blasting cans or qualifying on paper circle targets. Both are needed to keep the interest of shooters. What we did Fri wasn't a Royal Rangers event just me and two other guys having fun. It gave us both a chance to sight in our rifles. Luke had a nice holographic sight that once aligned hit target wherever his dot was. It was an Aim Point for $200. Considering one myself.
