April 2022 Thread
This is no April Fool's post. If you're keeping up on the news, and I'm not referring to what comes out of blogs and sketchy sites, you already know that trouble's coming. From China to Russia to Argentina and many other places, countries are putting a ban on the exportation of food. Between military conflict, bad weather and a shortage of fertilizer, the world's food output is going to be diminished in the next year. At best, prices will continue to increase. The true inflation rate is much, much higher than 7.9%, and we all know it.
There are no modern-day Josephs out there that will take care of vast numbers of people. If you have the financial means, stock up on what you can. Your family will thank you. And if you can, help out your friends and neighbors. And definitely pray.

Went to see Lee Strobel's film, based on his book The Case For Heaven. I was disappointed. It didn't draw much from the book itself. Too often, it seemed like The Lee Strobel Show. And I felt like the director and producers used artistic gimmickry to appeal to a Gen X crowd that wasn't going to buy a ticket to begin with.
So, if you're curious, buy the book. It's much better.

Ha! Fixed my winch, so my snow plow is back in action. Bring on tomorrow's 10" of snow! (Yes, you read that right.)

How could I have left out inane political decisions from the list of contributing factors? For example, our administration just announced a major push for more ethanol gasoline. "That will drive the price of gas down," they say. In actuality, using ethanol gas results in a lower gas mileage, so we'll be buying more of it and just breaking even. No, it's even worse than that. What do they use to make ethanol with? Feed corn. With less of it to go around, we'll end up paying more for less meat.

Missed me by 6 miles. My friend got 25 inches. Took him 4 hours to dig out.

Re: April 2022 Thread
I just noted that the big banking institution (aligned with military veterans) that I've been with for 35 years is just as much a crook as the rest of them.
I'm just a simple, uncomplicated man. I don't trust the artificially buoyed stock market. So I buy simple, uncomplicated certificates of deposit. They've been going down the last few years, and the interest on them is now next to negative. Example: a $10,000 CD earns $1 per year. Sure seems like we're getting cheated. How are the banks doing?
I made a chart that compares the home mortgage interest rates and the savings interest rates for the last 20 years. The mortgage interest recently went up to 5%. The last time it was at that level, the savings interest rate was just shy of 5%. What is it now? Two one-hundredths of a single percent. The math hurts. But if I figured it right, savings interest is four-thousandths of what it used to be.
Do you remember "too big to fail?" It's been going on since 2008. The big institutions have been getting fat off of our backs. And after what Biden and the Democrats (and far too many Republicans) have been doing for the last couple of years, how much longer do you think it will be until our economic system collapses yet again? The stock market is way, way overdue for a reality check and massive correction.
When it all crashes, the banks will call in their loans. Get out of debt now. Don't lose everything that you think is safe. Live simply and avoid complications. It's time to do what our money says..."In God We Trust."
