Post by Canadarangers June 2nd 2017, 12:00 pm

I can't believe that June is here already.   We have finished RR/GM until September now other then 2 yet undefined events to be planned for july and August. Our church is having a Sr. Pastor Candidate come next sunday and then we will vote on him after the service.  Our school is close to picking a new principal. Everything seems to be falling into place to make for a relaxing summer.

I am looking forward to getting out on the trail quite a bit this summer.  My wife and I are planning a 4 night excursion to a beautiful place on the north tip of Vancouver Island called Cape Scott Provincial Park http://capescottpark.com in Aug. It is a 26KM trail one way with plenty to see along the way so we are going to take our time. This would be the first backing trip for her. But she is gun-ho do it and wants to do more. This trail is attached to a much longer trail (60KM total) called the North Coast Trail which I would love to do as well I knew I picked a good one when I married her!

I looked at the photos of the park. It looks pretty interesting.

So is there much of a bear population in that area?

There is a bear population, how many I don't know. They provide Steel food cache in the main areas. Weather up there can be a real mix and you don't know what your getting until you get it. Normally it is dryer in the summer but can still be wet. Lots of muddy sections.

After a couple of years fighting the service department of a local big dealer, I shook the dust from my sandals and moved on. Found an independent auto mechanic a few miles away, and stayed with him when he moved 45 minutes away. He's saved me thousands of dollars and restored my sanity. And today he walked me through a problem with my mom's car over the phone. Solved with a $12 part (and one skinned knuckle).

When I first found him, he said something to me that made perfect sense. Dealer service departments hire new guys all the time. The ones that are really, really good always leave and start their own business. Find one and treat him well (I always tip mine.)

I've got a good mechanic that I've been with for about 5-6 years for our personal and company vehicles. It's definitely worth it to stick with someone that's good so they know you're loyal. Then they'll be loyal to you too. A good mechanic is definitely a valuable find.

Ironically, though basketball was the only sport I ever played on a formal team (it was the only sport our small Christian school had), I can't stand to watch it. The only exception to that was when the Gamecocks made it to the end in college. But then I watched the last couple games out of state pride interest. I did enjoy those games, but only because I had a dog in the fight... or should I have said, Gamecock... Mr Green

Nice going, Canada.

Just back from a multi-day campout with the wife. Very relaxing...no deadlines... The river was high, muddy and swift from recent rains. No fishing, but that was a minor glitch. We talked, planned, watched movies...

Two Clint Eastwood movies: Bronco Billy (we enjoyed) and White Hunter, Black Heart (we pulled it after 10 minutes; rated PG, Eastwood was swearing every time he opened his mouth, which was a lot).

Psssshhh. Laughing

If you want heat, come on down to SC and help me make up some of these roof top units WHILE the roofers are replacing the roof. Boiling tar all around in addition to the sun...

Phillip Jr and I finally pulled off the roof at about 3:30pm today. I looked at him about a half hour later and said "your face is still beet red" to which he replied "what do you think your's looks like?" It was getting so bad this afternoon that every time I went from a crouched position to a standing one I felt like I was going to black out.

Be careful, and don't make yourself a candidate for Heat Stroke. Once you have one, your thermostat can be weak for the rest of your life.

I had a border-line Heat Stroke in Texas back in about 1977. Now I have to be careful. Went to the Hospital, two years ago, with a resting pulse rate of 144 and what I believed to be a heart attack.

Nope, border-line heat stroke; again.

My boss got mad at me for just working a 9hour day yesterday. I worked a 11 hour day 3 days ago and another 9 hour day before that.

He said it says hit the button after 4pm. Pick up one more. I said define one more. It used to be about a hours worth of time. Now it can be a job that takes 6 or more hours...
So he said he was the boss. I said yes you are the boss but you don't have the final word. Please define one more. Union got a call. They will discuss this with him. Then I will get written up for it and then we will have to get them to define it. The process changes from week to week. This is this weeks plan. GRIN!

Big companies have BIG IDEAS! They will say just hit the button... ok it says launch a new space station on Mars. I don't care what it says get it done. GRIN!
One button was 6 men resplicing 6 cables unto midnight. The other hit the button was watching a video of our CEO telling us how we were going to walk on water...GRIN!

With out Union in the middle of it.. there would be no touch with reality.

So there you have it. My fathers day! Woo whoo ! Big bucks for working with guys with less than 5 years experience telling us how to do something they have no idea how to do. I just GRIN at them and call them to accountability..ooooh that makes them mad.

I see it in retail too same ideas recycled 5 different ways an say it'll work this time. My inner voice occasionally comes out says it didn't work the last 5 times!

The cavs let me down no big mucho bucks from a game 6. Indians are looking hot though they womped my Orioles in game 1/4 12-0! Cubs are rising back up the standings. Be funny to have cavs vs gsw two years in a row and Indians vs Cubs again this year.

Speaking of Uber cofounder CEO Travis resigned amid scandals and talk of a leave of absence. Boom they announced 180 days of change starting with adding in app tipping! Thats been a bug in drivers butts for years. Now 2 min cancellation timer instead of 5 mins.

I've taken on a third gig with a Christian guy who flips houses. I data mine leads on the common pleas and auditors sites for potential buys from houses in foreclosure. The wife has been enlisted to do the mailings for the leads I generate. Besides the pay for each lead and ea mailer he is offering a $250 finders fee for any houses bought from the leads. He plans on showing me how he does his side of the business. I will see what happens from there.

True, good advice with any business there is risk. He has been doing it for 30 years now. So far I'm pulling leads at $1 a piece which is name, location, mailing addresses, ppn, etc. Wife is sending out mailings for each lead at .50 cents a piece he supplies materials. I can play it safe and never ever get noticed or take a risk. What do I have to lose, Walmart isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Reminds me the apostles gave up businessesto follow a man who merely said come follow me. I pray Lord's will be done. A-L-L things workout for the good of those who love God.

Looks like someone got a little trigger happy with locking threads and locked the June thread. Wink

To add to that running convo...

I do agree that a lot of people get into flipping houses and loose their shirts. A lot of people loose their shirts in a lot of different business ventures. BUT, there can't be big reward without big risk. Otherwise everyone would get a trophy...

True, I appreciate the advice from both sides. Hopefully, 30 years of doing it means he knows a few things. So far I am doing more independent contractor work basically outsourcing his marketing and research to my wife and I to free him up to pursue some religious studies in Altlanta. He recently elaborated he like to hand over most of the operations and be able to travel and do ministry.

June 2017 Thread Empty Re: June 2017 Thread

Post by Phillip Gross June 27th 2017, 6:20 am

Keep us posted on it. I'll never fault anyone for checking out different options. I've tried TONS of different things through the years. Some of them have failed miserably. Others have been successful to some degree of another. As I get older, I'm starting to listen to the still small voice a little more to try to bypass the horrible mistakes. Smile

A couple years ago, I had a "golden opportunity" (pardon the pun) laid in my lap to breed Golden Retrievers for a dog broker in Florida. A buddy of mine had been doing it and making a good bit of money from this guy. The principle was simple. He provided the breeding stock and all you had to do was to take care of them (feed, medications, facility space, etc) and then he would give you a set price for the puppies produced. The price per dog would be lower than if you sold them on your own to people around town with your own advertising in a paper or Craigslist, BUT there was no worry of selling them all, and the whole litter left at the same time when they were of age to leave the mother. As a broker, he had a network of pet shops that he would sell the dogs to and so forth and so on.

I was excited to get into such an easy money scheme and started making preparations to do so. I built the dog houses and pens I needed, but then I got a "check" in my spirit about it. You know, that sour feeling when something isn't quite right. I called the guy up and backed out.

Now my friend had dealt with this guy for years and never been taken advantage of, so in my natural mind I couldn't figure out the problem. All I know is that in my spirit, I was not at peace about it, so I nixed it.

What I know and rely on is that God's ways are above my ways. He knows what I don't, so I have to trust that still small voice that leads my steps. I've plunged headlong into things that seemed good to my mind in spite of that check in my spirit in the past, and regretted it...

So my advice to you is to start walking down that path if it seems interesting, but stay sensitive to Holy Spirit while you walk.

If you're wondering, the pens I built became an additional selling point for the buyer of that property when I sold that house. As fate would have it, THEY breed Goldens too (not for that guy though), so the infrastructure I had built was appealing to them for their dogs when they were deciding if they wanted to buy our house! Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He will direct your ways.
