We had two tracks running. So I missed out on that. I could pull the records and find out speed wise.  It was funny to see it in the basket.

Ha

My Red Cedar For Anything car did a 1st place in design.

It took me about 45 minutes of cutting on a bandsaw and then on a scrollsaw.  With finish maybe 2 hours.  I didn't put much time in to it. It  was a wham bam deal.

my plan is to do do the whole code in derby cars.  Red Cedar.

One of the young leaders ask me if it was legal to use cedar.  I pointed out the rules specifiy a ranger derby kit of parts axles, screws, wheels...the block is optional in unliminited.  I also pointed out about 10 cars that had extras on them...that were not pinewood.  Grin.

I guess I made a believer out of him. Ha!

Young guys like to hang to the letter of the law. If it's black it's black and if it's white it's white. I like challenging them to see the gray in them... GRACE!!!!

Ha. It's all learning experience. I build cars just to participate..but the cedar word cars have been a hit. They will look cool on a shelf down the road.

We are teaching Leadership skills merit this next Sunday between services.

DR and ARER. About 35 signed up for them.

I am doing the McGuyver activity. It says we are to try and get the boys to the boxes in the corners of the room as fast as they can...I seem to be missing something... What did you guys do to start them off into going to the boxes?

Is the blindfolds part of it? I got a cut up version of the merit so I may be missing the part I need. You guys remember what you did?

We did a combine COA with the girls ministry. Packed out our prayer chapel with parents, grandparents, siblings, etc..Badges and recognition galore! So encouraging to hear the feedback from parents with many asking why didn't we start these program sooner.

I wish I could share the pictures, but our policy with kidsmin is that we only use pictures for in house and only with the written consent of the parents.

I got some good pictures the other night of the whole group together. I want to get it put up on the church facebook page so I have to get the permission of each parent of the kids that are in the photo.

This goes on all of our permission slips and Event Advertisements. If they are not in agreement just have them stay home and safe from having a picture taken. We don't post First and Last names as a rule. Most of the pictures don't identify anyone. Yet I am sure there is a slip up or two.
Just advertise it and use good judgement. No risky pictures posted. This came from our District Office Lawyer.

"There may be pictures taken at this activity and may be used on the Royal Ranger web site or in a news publication."

The national office has a model release form they use for their publications in print.

Yet we are not for profit so the district post has worked well now for over 3 years. I just pasted it to all my permission slip forms from years past so if I use them again they are ready to go.

Maybe Canadia has more unemployed lawyers there, eh?

(Just making a joke. When I was in grade-school, a girl from our class moved to Canada. We wrote her letters as a class project. One of the boys asked if there were penguins there.)

Was this after the Canadian Government stopped translating Letters from the US into Canadian?

Last Sunday we had a Leadership 101 and 201 with our DR and AR - ER groups. It was ok. A long day from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm. Our group total was about 33 boys and 10 leaders.

While I think there are better ways to teach leadership like loading them boys up and taking them outside for a over night campout in the wild. The in classroom process while it lacks the challenges of the foremention event I think they did enjoy it.

My part of it was a devotion. The McGyver Challenge and the Great Egg Drop. It was busy.

We are looking forward to a Oreentieering Merit and Primative Survival, Snares and Shelters this next month.

We have a pretty good group of boys going this weekend on a backpack. About 12 boys and 8 adults. Supposed to be perfect weather.

Now take what they learned in class and apply it in the wilderness. Better to learn how to get along now and know ea offers' weaknesses and strengths than when you are freezing and daylight is quickly diminishing.

The best part I like are the hands on exercises in working together and the games.

Sunday night we sat up a orienteering course and ran it 5 points. On the backpack last weekend I had the boys documenting and marking way points.

The number of steps calculation seems to have them messed up most of the time..counting strides. Making a work around for that to increase success. I hope!

We finished up First Aid skills for DR/AR. Good thing cause next week we start on toolcraft.

We have had new boys ever week since we came back from spring break! Praise God for growth, it helps when my Children's pastor's wife is a counsellor for the government and refers the kids to check us out.
