Today, two leaders and two boys dressed in utility uniforms promoted Royal Rangers this morning through taking up the offering. This being Royal Rangers week we have done this iirc since 2008.

Good Job Commander. It's not possible in our church. Too big to be flexible. Anytime is a good time to be visible.

We had our Leaders meeting yestereday. It was good we did calendar planning for next year and had 3 new leaders introduced.

My devotion went well. This week is busy. Cornmaze Friday night, Saturday Community Service in the morning and Sunday timber trip to the woods.

Last night we started the FCF merits. A repeat for most..yet they don't know it. No writing. All oral and hands on. Did a soda pop boil as rec time they love this stuff.

My guys were all cranked up tonight, too.

I think that their parents gave them 2 Snickers Bars & a Mountain Dew for Supper.

We were going over Cartridge Components, weighing Powder with a Balance Scale and measuring Bullet Diameter with a Vernier Caliper.

All the time, some of the boys were shouting, "When are you going to take us Trap Shooting! I want a Survival Day, lets kill & eat Squirrels....."

(I think that they're taking advantage of my mild, passive disposition.)

PTL Report: tonight my wife and I were checking out at Aldi's market and a man in an Indians jacket got in line behind us. He only had 4 items his wife asked him to pick up. My wife asked me if he could go ahead of us cause we had a cart full. We exchanged small talk after I said sure he could go ahead. I heard him say to the cashier those people were nice and let me go ahead of them. I thought it was odd he would mention that but didn't think much of it. I got up to the cashier and saw a $50 bill laying next to the register. I was curious and asked did he leave that here? Cashier said yes he left it here for you guys! Everyone was like wow . When you think there's no decent people left in the world God proves ya wrong. cheers

It helped me get a new pair of pants I desperately needed for work and let the wife get a replacement season of the Andy Griffith show to replace some damaged discs. Still got $20 left.

I have a great devotion ready next week...!

I read Crystal McVea's book, "Waking up in Heaven". The primary message that I took from it is that God is there with us and still loves us, even in the worst times of our lives.

Some times, He gives us a "tap on the shoulder" to remind us that He is still around.

It was perfect. I'm going to print it and post it on our tack board. I'm can be seen slightly on the right.

Btw, a certain person gave it a like on facebook. He was the one who said, "Royal Rangers is not an old camping program nobody wants to do". I captioned it, "this is ole fashioned Royal Rangers building a FIRE".

Yup that proves it. Boys are not interested in Rangers 2.0 type stuff. If they were really interested they would have been sitting back a ways with their Iphones being totally disconnected from what was going on around them staring at a 2" screen.... asking the same question..what did you say?

Good job Dan. Fire on! We built fires last sunday night. Each boy did a one match fire soda pop boil. Gave them a Walmart camping section knife (the kind with the plastic handles and a separte fork cost about 4.00 per pack I have 10 of them in a bucket) they have held up well. Also took a 2x2x 14" long and a 2' length of stranded 26 gage wire used to connect the knife and mallet and bat together. Than gave them a piece of allumninm foil and 2 8" long pieces of cedar fence pickets. A can of cheap soda and a few matches and they were set for about 25 minutes of fun and learning.

I get a kick out of the boys that will tell you.. oh ya I already did that. Yet they can't get a fire because they already know it all....GRIN! I use those times to bring them back to earth with a statement.. I know you didn't get it this time..but maybe next time you might. They seem to listen a bit better next time.

Thanks Mark thats high praise coming from you Very Happy

I told them with permission to ask mom or dad if they can use a 1 - gallon ziploc baggie to collect household tinder such as: dryer lint, shredded newspaper, or cotton balls to bring in next week.

I'm gonna breakout that bow-drill kit you gave Strods and me at Camporama. I mentioned to them about how to char cotton patches for flint and steel too.

We have been working on the hiking merit

went out on a 5 mile night hike last night

we had 7 of our 9 regulars (1RK 3DR 2AR 1 ER) +1 ER age guest

it was a beautiful night for a hike! clear & cool lots of stars out.
I gave everyone a glow necklace so I could keep track of them-which worked wonderfully! Cool  I could look back down the column & see where everyone was at.

I set up a color code with the necklaces: Blue for commanders,Green for Jr. Leaders & Orange for Rangers
1 orange didnt work so I had to give her a blue but otherwise it worked great

just before setting out

Phillip Gross wrote:Had a good outpost meeting tonight. One of the other commanders brought a cookie cake and the outpost sang "Happy Birthday" to me as Friday the 4th was my birthday. It was fun to celebrate with all the Rangers and AHG's.

I also had a heart to heart with my AR/ER class. I laid it all out about FCF and what it was going to take and then asked what THEY wanted to do. I love how God made boys! You could see the excitement creep into their eyes as I laid out the challenge ahead. I'm always very honest with them and was tonight too. I said our first goal was to get the outpost up and running, and we did, but that it seemed like we were getting into a monotonous routine in our outpost meetings. I asked them if they had felt that way too, (I knew already by their waning enthusiasm) and they agreed. I said it was because they need to know the next goal. As in baseball, if you only focus on first base and quit when you get there then you lose the game. When you achieve first base you look toward second and keep moving. I made the case for FCF for the one who had been absent recently and reiterated it for the other who has been there. They seemed truly reignited and worked hard. Now,... we'll see if this continues, but I think it will. You can't guarantee that things started will finish, but you can absolutely guarantee that something that never starts will in fact never finish!

When she comes back for a visit she comes in force! Good to see ya on RC.

Today, wife and I spent the day with friends celebrating their 30th anniversary by renewing their vows with a reception afterwards. Of course it would be on the sat of the early weekend muzzleloader season for deer! Laughing

I had a long run today. Left at 630am & headed to Holiday City Ohio (in the NW corner of Ohio). Picked up 3000lbs of plastics. from there, over to Grabill Indiana (near Fort Wayne) Picked up some 3' X16' poly panels. Then back into Michigan. Dropped off the poly panels in Alto MI. then turned for home. Got back in about 3:40pm
It was a good run & made good time. looks like I will be heading back into Indian this Friday.

Hoping for better behavior in Rangers tomorrow night Pray

Yay! better behavior tonight.

I had a chat with the Rangers about their behavior tonight.
I took the Senior patrol Leader & a Patrol Leader, the only 2 Rangers who did not misbehave last week (and both actively tried to reign in their fellow Rangers) & told them they could go play air hockey while I talked with the rest. they of course made sure the others knew how much fun they were having. Smile
talked to the rest about the selfishness, cheating & bad attitudes we had been seeing lately. told we could do extra Bible study instead of playing games if they kept on the way they were going.

I guess they didn't like the sound of that-behavior was much better this week. Cool

Tonight, we had a combined DR/AR class again. The DR cmdr was home catching on work missed since he was in Oregon last week.

My teen boys from Youth tried to join in my class tonight youth pastor was away so they had to go to the sanctuary. Warned them they had to follow directions. Of course they didn't and I kept my word I ejected them and focused on the 5 boys who were learning.
