October 2017 Thread
Just watching to see what comes out about the Las Vegas shooting. Have read that ISIS has taken credit, but that the FBI doesn't believe it yet. What do you guys think?
Regardless of the motive, it's truly terrible...

There's a lot for the investigators to wade through. Girlfriend went back to the Philippines, but is returning soon to answer questions...at least 2 of the guns were full automatic...a woman was pushing her way to the front of the crowd, saying they were all about to die...it was 100% pre-meditated, he didn't snap at the last minute...ISIS called for a "lone wolf" to attack Las Vegas...killer was employed by the aerospace industry, and there are pictures/video of a look-a-like, wearing a NASA t-shirt, at anti-Trump rallies, answering to the same first name.
Lord, come quickly.

Re: October 2017 Thread
Well, from information released, it appears that at least two of the firearms had "bump-fire" stocks installed.
It is a special stock on a spring or rubber bushing that allows the receiver of the firearm to move back & forth with the recoil of each shot. If you hold your finger in the same place, when the receiver comes back forward after recoil, the trigger strikes your finger, immediately firing another shot.
They are actually just a waste of ammunition and a "funzy" toy, because by their nature, you cannot properly aim the firearm, because it is just jumping about in a semi-controlled fashion, in one general direction, and you cannot hold your sights on the intended target. If you had a Red Dot type of sight, you may be able to narrow it down to a smaller "area target" type of device.
However, it works, when pointing it into a crowd of thousands of people, with no particular target in mind.
It is a "loophole" device that ATF approved, because it technically requires a pull of the trigger for each shot fired.
I never obtained one, because I considered it as only being good for wasting ammunition, scaring the neighbors, and having the Sheriff called on you.

Re: October 2017 Thread
In between bites of a delicious burger at a sports-themed restaurant, I couldn't help but overhear people in the next booth talk about the Vegas shooting. "Have to repeal the 2nd Amendment! It's the only way to stop the senseless killing."
I turned around and said to the gent, "I'm in favor of the 2nd Amendment, but I'll consider joining you if you outlaw abortion, in order to stop the senseless killing."
There was a momentary blank look, and then he buried his face in his fries for the rest of the meal.

As if adding another law will stop murderers... So far as I can tell, murder already is illegal, so whether it's with a fully automatic, semi-automatic, muzzle loader, bomb, or knife, it's still illegal to murder. So what good will another law do? They do not think logically at all....

An article today stated that these stocks were once illegal, but the Obama administration lifted restrictions...and the NRA had nothing to do with it. Now, why would Obama do that?

Well, here's one for you.....
A fellow once took a 10-inch shoe-string with a metal ring on it, and ran the shoe string from the pistol grip over the trigger, then put his trigger finger through it.
If you put just the right amount of pull on the ring with your finger, it would essentially "bump fire".
ATF charged him with Possession of an Illegal Machinegun.

He was charged but was he convicted?

Re: October 2017 Thread
Actually, it's more of a fight between 2 factions of the dark side. In the news today, the Boy Scouts announced two major changes...
1) Little girls can join the Cub Scouts
2) Older girls will get a new program that uses the exact same curriculum as the guys get. They can go all the way to Eagle Scout.
Of course, the Girl Scouts are highly critical of the Boys' move. Both organizations are losing kids big time, but I'm sure the hierarchy of both is still intact. Gotta keep the money coming in, and the BSA made the first move.
Ain't diversity grand?

Yeah,
Still waiting to read the (revised) history account of how the All-Female Ranger Battalion scaled the cliffs at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.

Re: October 2017 Thread
Seriously why is the inclusion of girls in bsa a bad thing? Its more due to demand by girls who are sick of missionette / gsa style programs. Same reason girls want in Royal Rangers. Scouts worldwide are usually coed. Venture scouts are coed. From my reading there will be separate groups for each gender but belong to same pack or troop. This was a suggestion I had for Royal Rangers usa to create a separate girls program in Royal Rangers usa. Separate but use same curriculum, ranks, and awards.

Re: October 2017 Thread
Oh heck, here we go again...
First off, even if you had the same curriculum, someone eventually would be upset that the girls and boys were separated at all.
You may not have noticed that masculinity has been under attack for a long time. There are those who say that women can do everything and anything as good as a man. Those people are ignorant. I'll point to athletic records of men and women and destroy that. Does this mean I think men are superior? Nope. Just means I recognize that we're different.
What happens though is that when girls are allowed to come into a "boy's group" it inevitably gets watered down. There's a time and a place for everything according to the Bible. There are times for boys to act like gentlemen and there are times for them to be able to say stupid boy things, fart, and pee on trees without fear of offending.
We do combined activities at our outpost at times. We did a combined skill merit to kick off the new outpost year. It was fun..., but I'm ready for this Sunday when we finish it up so that we can split back out. We do combined camps sometimes too, but there's a different feel to the camp when we do. The only reasons a guy would think there's never a difference when girls are involved are A) he doesn't care, and farts and cuts up as usual without regard for the ladies, or B) he's effeminate anyway.
There is a good option for girls who don't want the ultra liberal GSA or the namby pamby Impact Girls... It's called American Heritage Girls. Full of hands on skills merits like the Missionettes of old. We started AHG at our outpost a couple years after we started RR, and now AHG is almost twice as large as RR. It's a good program.

Boys want safe spaces, too.
Hey, follow the money. That's what the BSA move is all about. The national director makes $1.4 million a year. Yeah, you heard right. He and the other big wigs don't want cuts. Bet our RR national commander makes a little less than that.

Cali just recognized tri gender "nonbinary" on all government ID's. So BSA will need to have 3 programs haha.
Sorry if I triggered you Philip. Your setup sounds similar to what is proposed in BSA but with a unified advancement system.
I am not disagreeing with anyone but sometimes repeating old discussions allows fresh viewpoints to be expressed by newcomers.
Do we define masculinity by freedom to expel gases on a whim or by character traits?

Both. Real men express themselves in a manly way. No dancing around trying to get your point across in a sensitive, non-threatening way. Makes for less confusion later.

You're probably used that extreme being military background. I do believe in being direct but not an excuse to be unloving. Can you be manly and be tactful as well? Being sensitive to others isn't unmanly. Allowing emotions to run you isn't right either.

Another football championship in the family. My grandson's team won tonight, 14-6. Those were the first points they've given up all year. They certainly earned it, practicing 5 evenings a week. Intense for 6th graders.
