Merit Additions
I'm launching out on the eight Skill merits needed for the Frontier level in FCF. I like to make my lessons as dynamic as possible, so I use extra information that will help when available. For instance for Rope Craft, I've used the website that Chris posted for tying knots. It has great pictures of how the knots should be done, so I printed out the pictures and instructions for the knots required in Rope Craft. I also used the booklet that Strods posted up when I was doing Primitive Shelters. Don't ask how we did Primitive Shelters BEFORE Rope Craft and Lashing.... I'm new to this! What else can I say??? It did show my boys the value of those other merits as they fumbled through building their shelters.
Anyway, any additional info for skill merits would be great!

Re: Merit Additions
Why do you need ropecraft or lashing before primitive shelters? Boys/girls should be able to build shelters with only natural materials.

We have always thought we are the one teaching the rangers, but at times teaching them, we are actually teaching ourselves.Phillip Gross wrote:I'm launching out on the eight Skill merits needed for the Frontier level in FCF. Maybe have some of the teaching aids to speed up the learning process too.

Nice Knot Board. That's a great visual training aid.
(I'm going to sub-charter under Singapore, so that we can wear our Khakis---------legally.)

Notice the Lashing Examples over-top the Rope Boards?

Re: Merit Additions
Khakis are legal here just considered dressy. I like Singapore Royal Rangers too. If you sub charter you have to go coed...

I think it was Mark's outpost had displays like that setup at Camporama. We had a knot display board setup in my old Potomac outpost.

Re: Merit Additions
Knot boards are a nice display. I really like it when the outpost each age group builds a useful lashing project for pow wow.
Lashing projects around pow wow are cool. Now on most of the other campouts.... I use knots but not a lot of lashing.
I really enjoy ropecraft and lashing.
