Medal of Honor

While waiting for the graveside service of my brother-in-law, I walked over to a nearby grave that caught my eye. It was for Orville E Bloch, who was awarded the Medal of Honor during WWII. Denied an officer's commission because he was too short, he enlisted as a buck private and later received a battlefield commission. As a 2nd LT, he charged 5 machine gun nests and captured many German soldiers. The engraving at his grave read like Sgt York-level bravery. He eventually retired as a colonel.

As celebrated as they were in their day, I thought about how we largely forget about them, especially after they pass on. Made me think about a needed book that contains pictures of their grave sites, along with their MOH citation. Eagle Scout candidates work on a big finale project. I wonder if there's a way for several of them around the country to collaborate on a project?
