Why Reinvent The Wheel? Empty Why Reinvent The Wheel?

Post by joecool April 13th 2017, 6:16 pm

My school just finished an accreditation inspection, and we got a thumb's up for another 5 years. A ton of work. Part of it entails self-identifying your weak areas. One trend that I noticed was the high turnover of teachers over the years. Some of us have been able to stick around and become pretty proficient over time. But the rookie teachers struggle, sometimes needlessly. What if they had a mentor, or at least a way to reach out to their more-seasoned peers?

Years ago, I tried to connect with other science teachers in the state. Didn't get a single response. But I'm ready to try it again, this time with a website that would allow teachers in all departments to post their tips and tricks of the trade, and others to ask questions. I was doing research on how best to do that, thinking blog, etc.

um

And then it hit me....

Why not use RangerChat's model? So Chris, how did you set this up? How is it paid for? And a hundred other questions............

That was my thought as I read it. Forums are great for discussion and archived information. There aren't any forums for teachers, or just nothing in the format you like?

As far as I can tell, there's nothing out there to connect Christian school teachers with each other. That's not to say we can't get good tips from a "public" forum. But my experiences with them haven't been helpful. All I've gotten online is a bunch of pseudo-psychobabble from teachers who are pushing the latest educational philosophy du jour.

And going to a big teachers' conference wasn't fun, either. Just a lot of people who like to hear themselves talk in front of a crowd. In a smaller break-out session, I watched as several attendees savaged a guest speaker, whom they knew to be a recent Troops-to-Teachers program graduate.

Sorry just noticed your question Embarassed Not being involved with Rangers at this time, I don't visit as often as I should.

Rancher Chat was completely free. You can start your own forum from forumotion.com and they will guide you through how to set things up. There is also a support forum that forumotion site admins can join where you can ask questions or get help.

Thanks, Chris. My goal is to get the site up and inform other schools in my state before the end of the school year.
