Prophetic or on purpose??
If you will all turn with me to page 320 in your leader's manual(2010).
You will notice the picture is of a city, somewhere... could be anywhere. Probably the USA somewhere....except for the flag that is flying on top of that pointy roof building. OK maybe that is just a an embassy somewhere. But wait, there is another flag on another building to the right of it. Looks like Red...white and maple leaf.
Welcome to downtown Montreal, Quebec. and it used to have a Ranger Outpost (#3 Canada District).
Prophetic? I'd like to think so. Look out Canada. the Rangers are coming!

Re: Prophetic or on purpose??
I'll have to check that out. Sounds like a good time for Rangers to return to what really works and expand again. I'd love to see a bunch of outposts to our north.
We do at least one "cold weather" camp each year during our coldest month, but it'd be nice to get up north for a REAL cold weather camp sometime!

Re: Prophetic or on purpose??
Rangers in canada may look different then in the USA. We need a church organization like the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada to patner with Rangers. But we need to get the ranger name in to the pastor's ears as vurtually no one has heard of Royal Rangers. I have suggested to Doug Marsh that he get a booth setup at the PAOC genrral confrence next year and start making Rangers known.

Re: Prophetic or on purpose??
There are merits that have american requirements. ...firearm laws make it difficult to do shooting, not impossible, cultural issues around firearms make it harder than the laws. BGMC/STL/LFL are not options as the government bean counters dont like non profits sending money to non profits in other countries...
And no offence to my American brothers.. but I will not be teaching our boys about the US presidents/history/ etc. I will have to try to get some of the badges that have US symbols replaced with Canadian one.

Here comes the political correctness.
One Canadian joins the Platoon, and the other 29 of us have to learn how to speak Canadian, rather than him learning how to speak English.

Re: Prophetic or on purpose??
OOH!
We dined with folks from there for a week last winter. I definitely cannot speak Newfoundlandeese.
Any time that they didn't want us "Yanks" to know what they were they were saying, they just turned and started in their home dialect (French?).
----------
In all seriousness, since Canada doesn't have enough Outposts to support a "Stand-Alone" advancement system, if you took the time to submit substitute requirements that "Met or Exceeded" the U.S. standards, I don't see why you wouldn't be granted a variance by the National Office. They may even publish those standards in an addendum to assist other Canadian Churches that are interested in the Program.
Since you have found places where there have previously been Canadian Outposts, it might be worthwhile to see if they have already done similar work. -- No sense in trying to re-invent the wheel. --

Newfies speak newfie...not french. No connection at all to france or Quebec. More scotland/Ireland theb anything.
I have been in contact with the other active outpost commander and he just replaces it with equivalent or better Canadian content. I have already started a file of Canadian content that I will be sharing with Doug Marsh.

I guess I assumed there were already merit alternatives for international outposts that took those things into consideration. What do they do in Singapore, or Germany, etc?

Re: Prophetic or on purpose??
I can't speak for Jeremy's situation, but I think that some of those countries have big enough programs that they have their own National HQ's.
Also, I believe that Royal Rangers International is kind-of Parallel to R/R U.S. We don't really fall UNDER R/R International.
That leaves Jeremy in a Lurch. He's not really an American, but not really a Foreigner, either.

Based on my understanding, because we are working with RRUSA I fall under that authority and I have no problem submitting to that. I would love to see RRCAN established because of the many cultural differences that exsist between our nations. If you were to compare Scout organizations in our countries they are very different.
RRI's role is to assist in establishing Rangers in countries that do not have it. Doug is very interested in how we do over the next few months and years.
