Do You Know a Godly Man? Empty Do You Know a Godly Man?

Post by RangerJeff September 19th 2019, 5:58 pm

Fellow commanders: I was terribly saddened at my AR meeting this week. We were studying the 3rd lesson in Psalms about being a Godly man. I asked the boys if they could name a Godly man that they know. None had an answer. So to help them I asked didn't they consider their dad a Godly man. All shook their heads "No". I was afraid they were confused so I asked again if they know a Godly man. There were no answers.

Now these boys are mostly very talkative and to not have an answer to this question was more than strange. Could they not come up with an answer because their measure for "Godly" is humanly impossible? I hope so, because otherwise we, their commanders, and their dads, coaches, teachers and preachers, are doing a poor job.

But since we had just talked about what a Godly man was and we had talked about living victoriously with God's help and our striving to be a man of integrity, I had to assume that their answer meant we had been judged and we were lacking.

I am sad.

I'm sad as well. But perhaps the boys are comparing their Dads to Jesus. I know that I wasn't that good back in the day. Come to think of it, I'm not that good now. All I can do is ask Him each day for the strength to conduct myself in a way that puts a smile on His lips.

A little advice for you to consider. With 30+ years in Rangers, and 15+ in education, I can guarantee something is going to get twisted in the translation. And you may get a Dad or two call you up. You might want to share a little extra with the boys, perhaps from the first paragraph, to perk them up. Of course, letting them know they can pray for their fathers is gold.

Good advice! Thanks. I will certainly follow up next week. How can boys expect to live a godly life if they have no examples to follow? I will have to step up my relationship with God, too.

Bring up King David.  He is a man after God's own Heart.  Yet David failed, failed, failed and failed.....yet God proclaimed him after His own heart.

The key.  David truly was sorry for what he failed at and kept striving after God.  With Gods Help he truly was a Godly man!

Good thought! I will pass that along this week. I think our boys are very critical of their dads because they have no idea what he is facing in life. And success is not guaranteed nor expected every time. We'll all have to face failure at some time. The boys need to understand that now.
