The smart phone plunge! Empty The smart phone plunge!

Post by Mark Jones March 17th 2014, 9:57 am

Well as of Sunday afternoon I took the smart phone plunge.

Samsung Galaxy 4s.

Anyone have one of these?

I am trying to unlock the phone so I can update my contacts with my data file...it says the unlock is on the device...GRIN!

Installed viewranger on it..(topo map program)

Just did a few texts with it. A little learning to do yet.

I don't have it, but I know a lot of people like it and it's supposed to be a pretty good phone. Best of all it's not an iJunk... I mean iPhone. Wink

I should've gone with the Galaxy, but I went with Motorola HDmaxx because historically I liked Motorola products, but it's a piece... Apparently Motorola has changed hands a couple times lately and is going down hill fast. Won't get another when my upgrade is due.

I might be interested in the Windows phone in another year or two as they continue to develop it and create more apps for that OS.

I get all the benefits of a smartphone with an ipod touch that does all what a iphone does without the phone. I use wifi only and don't pay the data plan. With Magicjack app it becomes a wifi phone. There are texting apps as well.

My brother inlaw is a huge Galaxy fan. They look pretty big but Android has fewer apps than ios from apple.

Wth Windows you get interconnectivity with Windows 8, tablet, and phone. Btw my ccw instructor that is in his 70s loves Windows 8 and how it integrates with the phone. Surprised since most older gens tend to hate it.

Why reinvent the wheel? The NSA is already doing that. To raise more money, I hear they're going to develop and sell an app.

I like Viewranger. It has a the buddy beacon as well and allows uploads and down loads of tracks through their website. Maps are cheap enough only at 20.00 for USA.

Well I got to use the View Ranger app this weekend as well as my son used it to navigate us to the trail head and then on down the trail. I took 80 pictures this past weekend with the smart phone.

My rechargeable 870 lumes flash light and my smart phone will both charge off of the same cable.

Getting to know my phone better. I haven't tried many new apps yet. Still a winders guy.
