Thanksgiving Plans? Empty Thanksgiving Plans?

Post by Phillip Gross November 26th 2013, 6:05 am

So what are y'all doing for Thanksgiving?

We'll be going to our pastor's house as we have for the past 7-8 years. They've always had a big gathering made up of people who either have no family, or just none close by that they can get together with. Shortly after we joined the fray, I became the turkey maker frying multiple birds every year. I make my own injections from scratch and fry away.

Last year I smoked one along with frying (that took a really big paper... Wink ), but this year a fellow commander is coming who is going to smoke a couple and bring them.

All total, I'll be frying about 6 (unless they add more) with two of those going to other places. One will go to the children's cancer floor where my wife works for the families that are there, and another one to a facility that takes care of mentally handicapped men.

What are your Thanksgiving traditions?

I signed up to work this week. Giving someone else the weeked off. Will work 2 of my days off this week.

Thursday we will have Thanksgiving dinner at my wifes brothers house. They are missionaries just about to return to the philipinees so we will have the gathering at their house here in ozark. Normal eat, eat, eat. Pies and goods. Inlaws are game players so non stop game playing for 20 hours. The best part is seeing and spending time family.

Hopefully there can be restoration. My brother and I didn't talk for 4 years. We finally restored the relationship about a year ago.

Phillip, I'm touched. I really am. Painless injections instead of a hatchet. Very humane of you.

Oh I do one better than that Joe. I buy them from the store wrapped in plastic, so they weren't even ever alive! Mr Green

Apparently that's what a lot of people think by the reaction they give when they hear we raise meat chickens and goats..... Haven't gotten into turkeys yet.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to a local diner for my wife's sister's birthday.

One of the items on the menue was "Smothered Chicken".

I said, "Up North, we just cut their heads off".

So cruel to smother a chicken with one quick chop you end it.
