10 reasons why I kissed Halloween goodbye Empty Re: 10 reasons why I kissed Halloween goodbye

Post by Mark Jones October 28th 2013, 7:26 am

Yes when I was a Jehovah's Witness we didnt' trick or treat it was a nasty evil holiday that gave glory to the devil. Ya. That's right.

As a kid I hated Holloween. All my friends were going out door to door with the neighboorhood doors wide open meeting their neighboors saying hi and having some clean fun. While I sat home thinking tommarrow they would have big sacks of candy and talking about the treats and the scares they got and laughing and carrying on.

Today as a Born again Christian my family saved. My friends most of the saved..those that are not still working on them. I have seen God work mighty and do real miricles in my life and others.

Thursday night. I will clear the drive and the street parking the vehicles in my back yard set up my 10 x 10 portable ez shade. Hang a 2' spider on a string that I can flip and it will drop out of the roof down to the candy dish right below giving them a trick and a treat with one good laugh. Yup will see the neighboors say hi and all the while have a fire going in a above ground fire pit eating chillie and roasting marshmellows and drinking hot chocolate if it's cold handing out candy and making a good positive memory. Thanking Jesus all the way for what He has done for me.

We can get caught up in being zealots of the Law. Sure we know what Jesus thought of those guys. Give them kids a little Grace and let them enjoy their childhood.

I will love you either way...locked up in a dark house or lighting the night for Jesus on Holloween.

10 reasons why I kissed Halloween goodbye Empty Re: 10 reasons why I kissed Halloween goodbye

Personally, the origins of Halloween is connected to the occult and is still part of their practices. I feel we can sometimes lean too liberally in an effort to say, "we're not legalistic" and eventually we look and act like everyone else. I don't see an issue with doing positive things like you mentioned. I would drop the fear part of it. If the kids want to go to church and dress like superheroes, princesses, etc and eat candy that is best.

Why do we need a holiday to go meet our neighbors? Generations ago people just did that all the time.

I personally think the devil gets more worship from all the time the kids have their faces poked in to a electronic gaget blasting some goblin or zombie or what ever away. I don't think God is so pleased with us being so focused on our own creations and ignoring His creations.

Look around. Half the people driving around are texting, reading emails, not paying much attention to the person next to them. We are so wrapped up in our own little worlds.

Today for lunch. While I was inside getting something to eat another guy pulled in backed in right next to my truck... less then a foot away from my door. His mirror had me blocked in if I pulled out I would tear his mirror off his truck. He came out in about 10 minutes. I rolled down the window and told him... I really appreciate your considerate actions making me stay here until you got back. Real considereate of you. He said I didn't mean to. Sure you didn't. I still don't appreciate it. It took me half a hour before I stopped wishing bad things to happen to him...GRIN! Now I am sorry for my anger. It's all good.

I love these threads..just can ramble about whatever.

"Halloween" was originated as a Christian Celebration.

The Name Literally Means "Holy" (Hallowed) "Eve".

It is the night prior to "All Saints Day". Kids would dress up as Christian Saints and visit around the neighborhood.

As many holidays do, Halloween evolved.

Although many in the occult celebrate it, it does not "belong" to the occult. It was started by Christians.

They may have hijacked it (in great part), but if you do not engage in the "Demonic" part of the celebration, then it is no worse than Saint Paul eating meat that had been killed in front of an idol.

Dressing up as a Cowboy ain't going to send you to hell, and neither is giving candy to a 6-year-old Cowboy.

Never a big fan of Halloween. Have lived the last decade in a rural area, so not too many kids come by. We have some candy ready, though, along with a verbal blessing as they leave. This year I'll be downtown, walking as part of the volunteer police force, tempering people's inclination to "trick".

Welcome aboard Joe.

I might do Halloween in a clean way but the negative symbols of fear and death hold no place for me.

There are probably some traditions in Christmas and Easter we ought to nix too but keep the core meaning of each intact.

BINGO!

Like someone around here said something about, "Eating Hay & Spitting Sticks".

I don't want to punish the kids, because some Nefarious Goofs hijacked an old Religious Festival.

More than one thing Dan. There are really only a few things we can all stand together and say we don't agree totally on. So much common ground. More alike than apart.
