Top Shot
How many of you guys remember the show "Top Shot"? Twenty people would gather and go through a series of competitions, ranging from throwing spears, to shooting .22s and .50 cal sniper rifles, to firing Civil War-type cannons. Eventually, it would be whittled down to the championship round between two guys. My favorite season was when a youth pastor won it all, beating out professional shooters and former special forces guys.
Why couldn't we modify it for Royal Rangers? While some of you commanders would be entirely comfortable breaking out the long guns and ammo, that might not be for everyone. Try tomahawk throwing, archery with soft tips, nerf ball guns, water pistols, dart boards and more. You could plan the competition over a series of weeks, or do it on a long Saturday. Divide the kids (and commanders) into age groups and keep track of their scores as they progress through all the events.
Think your boys would invite all their friends and potentially grow your outpost? Hand out Top Shot awards at the end and, at a minimum, create life-long memories.
