Re: NRA and Conceal Carry Weapon Permit (CCW/OC)
The Army started going to the 9mm at about the same time that they started putting 105-pound women into Close Combat Support. See any correlation?
The average woman could not handle a Model 1911A1 .45 pistol. So they "dumbed down" the weapon to suit the user.

How do you feel about 9mm for personal defense?

Re: NRA and Conceal Carry Weapon Permit (CCW/OC)
If I was making an Arrest, on the Entry Team, or executing a Search Warrant, I carried a .45.
When I was just going to Court or the U.S. Attorney's Office wearing a suit, I wore a 9mm.
When I was working undercover, I took a .380.
Moral: If I thought that there was a High Probability that I would be going onto the 2-Way Pistol Range (where you shoot at the Pop-Up Targets, and the Pop-Up Targets shoot back at you), I carried a .45.
So it is a compromise.
Now as a civilian, I carry a .380 (always). In the electronic safe next to my bed is a 9mm Glock, because I feel that it is easy to manipulate with a rail-light on it, it is reliable, and it holds LOTS of bullets.
I heard someone once say that, "a Glock was designed as a 9mm, and it works flawlessly in that Caliber. A .40 is pretty close to 9mm in size, and they are very reliable, also. But it was not designed as a .45, and that is where you start to see problems..."
My personal experience as a Police Armorer tended to bear that out. I saw quite a few Glock .45's that broke (mostly extractors and trigger-bar assemblies). I do not recall having seen a broken 9mm. I cannot speak about .40's, as they were not issued.

What make(s) and brand(s) of guns do you know work best in .45acp?

Re: NRA and Conceal Carry Weapon Permit (CCW/OC)
This is limited and not all inclusive:
The Model 1911A1 has traditionally been "King of the Hill" and everyone has been attempting to knock it off for the past 103 years.
I carried (and was Department Armorer for) Smith & Wesson 4506's and 457's. The 4506 was actually larger than a 1911A1, but it ran like a watch. The 457 was kind of a stripped-down Detective Model, and was not quite as precision-accurate. However, they both ran like John Deere Tractors; never broke down.
These are both all-metal guns. The new polymer-framed 45's were just coming into full-swing when I retired. The main reason that I didn't get into XD's and similar was because I already had my 9mm's and .45's, they were not authorized firearms by our Department, and I liked guns that had a long established history, so that you could always find spare parts for them.
I am certain that there is more up-to-date information on .45's that are proven to be reliable, and maybe not quite so heavy as what I have.

Re: NRA and Conceal Carry Weapon Permit (CCW/OC)
I've been wanting an XDm in .45acp in a 5.25" compeition size. There is also an S&W M&P Pro that is compeition grade I'd consider too. I think nowadays parts for XD's and XDm's are widely available.
A side question: why do most people who love the 1911A1 squawk about grip safety on a Springfield Armory XD, XDm, or XDs?

Do an Internet Search for "Tupperware Gun".

I did a search. It appears Glock was initially disparaged with that nickname. Now everyone loves Glocks and other polymer guns.

Sat night I ordered an Alien Gear IWB holster. It was recommended by a fellow Royal Rangers commander via fb. Some say its better than a crossbreed. I ordered the cloak 2.0 IWB.
Check it out for yourself http://aliengearholsters.com/videos

I came across this document when a fb comment mentioned a memorandum from the Mich state police that states that open carriers who possess a valid permit can open carry in all state restricted no-carry zones. I always knew states exempted security and cops from the restricted zones but Mich gives CPL holders and those like myself from reciprocal states permission to open carry in gun free zones. You can't cc in those zones with CPL but can open carry with a CPL.

Re: NRA and Conceal Carry Weapon Permit (CCW/OC)
In our court houses there is signs up that says NO weapons allowed pierod.
Federal court houses. They run you through a scanner. My phoneman tools are even gone over.
A perceived threat is in many cases has to be treated as an actual threat. It's a fine line walking between the right to bear arms in a public place and not being perceived as a actual threat.
In many banks you are not allowed to enter with your hoodie up. GRIN!
Mark Jones. Remember God has your eternity in hand. What happens here in this vapor of a life we live is just a test. If it stumbles someone.... use caution.

I thought it was odd too Philip and even questioned the commentator. Might be a way for Mich to get open carriers to register and pay for permit.

Re: NRA and Conceal Carry Weapon Permit (CCW/OC)
There has been good news for Ohio CHL holders we have expanded reciprocity with CO, SC, WISCONSIN (if issued after 3/23/15), and PA. Hopefully TX will follow suit soon and reciprocate Ohio's CHL. I was really wanting PA or I would need to apply for a non resident carry license when I visit my dad. Now I could still spend the $20 on a non res PA license if I wanted Wisc and TX reciprocity.
Other big changes are Ohio accepts everyone. We offer non resident licenses. Our CHL's remain in effect till expiration so if you move you have up to 5 yrs to transfer it to new State. Use of silencers/suppressors while hunting. Loaded mags and speedloaders/strips can be stored in different pouches of the same gun case away from gun. We can carry loaded mags and speedloaders/strips into no carry zones while leaving empty gun locked in our car without it being considered a loaded firearm. Our old definition of an automatic firearm was if it had a 31+ round mag it was considered a full auto by state law. Our definition is now in sync with fed defintion of trigger pull releases more than one bullet effectively lifting the 30 rnd mag limit. AR Enthusiasts can ring freedom's bell with a 60 rnd drum mag!
Unfortunately, "stand your ground" or no duty to retreat had to be sacrificed.
Current HB147 by Rep Ron Hood looks to prevent landlords from banning residents of rental property from being disarmed. Also the big one is to eliminate the need for a class or permit to conceal carry in Ohio. Basically go constitutional carry for conceal carry like we do for open carry already.

I came across this document when a fb comment mentioned a memorandum from the Mich state police that states that open carriers who possess a valid permit can open carry in all state restricted no-carry zones.
the key word being no concealed carry zones. Does not affect No GUN zones such as courthouses & govt buildings
