July 2019 Thread
Good morning, July. I was thinking last night about Independence Day and holidays in general. So little of their original intent remains, having been secularized and dumbed down to not much more than a rush to make more profit. Do your towns put on any events that might be a little closer to a celebration of our founding?

Well, Colin Crapernick isn't done. You might recall that he became Nike's advertising face. For the 4th of July, Nike was putting out the "Betsy Ross" shoe (red, white and blue). After Crap complained that it was promoting the beginning of a slave country, Nike pulled the product. Welcome to the land of the perpetually offended and the home of those who hate it.

Boy ain't that the truth
I can't fathom why Nike (or anyone else) would care what a washed up, has been like Capernick thinks?
He was never a star player. mediocre on the field & way too much drama for any team to take on. Teams will put up with drama for a all star level player, but not for a 2nd rate player like him.

Got the word this morning that I am out of a job.
IRS froze my employers accounts & they are going to have close down & sell off. Only worked there for 3 weeks & I am still due 2 weeks pay. Back to the job hunt

I got a new job today!
I will be hauling milk & getting paid $1 an hour more. I also got the back pay I was due from the last job today.
double blessing!

I knew you'd get another trucking job. But recovering the back pay? That was a blessing.

Who remembers watching the moon landing and first step live on TV? Can't believe it's been 50 years. Can't believe two of the Apollo 11 crew are still with us. Last night I was watching a video of Aldrin (year unknown) being harassed by someone who didn't believe the mission happened. At one point, he must have really crossed the line verbally. Although much smaller and twice/thrice his age, Aldrin threw a right cross that connected.

Alas that did not work out. On day 3 they sent me out solo on what turned out to be a 17 hour day(8am-130am) after that I told them that wasn't the right job for me.
Got a call a day later from a former employer. They has 1 driver out on medical leave & another on light duty & wondered if I would either come back or at least fill in for a couple weeks. (They had seen a form come through from unemployment verifying my employment there) Told them I would.

Howdy fella's
I have been told by my Supervisor that they have already decided they are going to find a away to keep me on the job. They don't want me leaving again. He jokingly said I was staying whether I like it or not.
Its nice to feel appreciated

Is there a market for locally-based independent truck drivers? How much does a medium-sized rig cost these days?

Well, even if it's not the best job in the world, it's nice to be appreciated.

there is a huge market right now.
as for cost-totally depends on what kind of truck (straight truck or semi) & what body (Van, flatbed etc)
a truck like this: 10-25K for used (depending on age & miles)
Or a tractor like this: 25K-60K for used (depending on age & miles)
