Ha ha. Thanks. The funny thing is that I wear a beard less often than I clean shave, but it was my avatar pic for so long.

I like the idea of a long duck dynasty beard, but I never can get there because it starts to freak me out and I have to shave it off. I like the feeling of washing my face and feeling clean instead of having to wash a beard like the rest of my hair.

We use the bolo to signify who has learned all of the pledges, code, moto, etc. We give them out to those who've memorized everything.

We were blessed to be assigned 210 as our outpost number. Maybe I told y'all this before, but when we were assigned that number, I looked up every 2:10 in the Bible and then settled on Ephesians 2:10 "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago." That's our outpost verse that we recite every week at opening ceremonies, and is also one of the things that must be memorized for the bolo.

Anyone do anything fun for Labor Day? Even though I really don't care about Labor Day based on what it's meaning is, it was nice to have an extra day with friends and family. We went out to my parents place along with my brother Chris, my inlaws, and the Boones (Cmdr Bryan's family). Had a good day.

It was started by the trade unions. Not a union guy.... They've had a healthy hand in destroying American industry. They may have had a place at one time in history, but all they do is to destroy industry to line the pockets of the fat cats. All the while convincing ignorant American workers that they're "there for them". Hogwash....

I feel that way too when unions fight to keep drug addicts who smoke pot near combustible materials on the job or keep asking for too much $.

Probably a stupid question, but do commanders earn merit badges? I know you have to have taught the merits for FCF, but do they (can they) actually earn the badge? This question leads somewhere else, so bear with me...

A question for those who wear (or have in the past) pins on their uniforms. Do you always remove the pins before washing the shirt? Once again, probably a stupid question, but I haven't worn pins so far.

Yes, remove pins. I'll even remove velcro patches.

Yes, it will tear up the pins and the uniforms.

We still use the "old-style" rank pins, and I'm sure that the washing machine would scratch the enamel off of them.

Velcro can be a horse-apiece.  The original manufacturer of Velcro recommended that you leave the hook and loop pressed together during washing, to reduce wear on the fastening surfaces and to keep foreign lint/threads out of the hook tape, and to keep the hook tape from pulling the threads/fabric of the rest of the clothing and fabric in the washing machine and dryer (Parachute Rigger Course, level 201).  However, it will accelerate the wear on the surface of the patch.

If the portion of the Velcro on the Uniform to be laundered is the "Pile", then I would have no problem in removing all of the patches.

If the portion of the Velcro on the Uniform to be laundered is the "Hook", then you may want to consider leaving the patch on to protect the hooks & other materials in the washing machine  ....... or better yet, remove the patch with the "Pile" and cover the "Hook" Velcro with a piece of "blank" Pile Velcro to protect the Hook Tape and other fabrics in the machine.

And how much wear and tear is there on the uniform material from pushing pins in and out of it 52 times per year, provided that it did indeed need to be washed weekly?

Use the same holes.

I have 38 years in the Army/Army Reserve.

On our duty uniform, we had to pin our rank on our collars and qualification badges every other day (I could generally get 2 days wear out of one washing. The uniforms never showed noticeable wear.

You could get a second opinion from JoeCool. He has a full career as a Seaman, Petty Officer, Warrant Officer, and Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. I'm certain that he had to pin his insignia on every day.

But if you have youthful insight that overrides 38 years of Uniformed Experience (plus whatever JoeCool may say), go for it........

Nope. That's why I'm asking. I figured you military guys knew the answer. I've never had experience in it. I just know that especially in the summer months I wash my uniform shirt after each weekly meeting. Can probably stretch that out in the winter months.

Thanks for the information.

Bought an old disc harrow today. I had been borrowing a set from one of our commanders to start getting fields ready to plant, but I really hate borrowing things from people. I'm always worried about something getting messed up while I have possession.

Anyway they're an old rusty set of discs that I got from a guy who deals in old tractor implements. When I got home tonight my two older boys came out to see the new acquisition. Seth asked me where I got it from while Phillip Jr answered just above a whisper "from the junkyard". Laughing I haven't had a good laugh like that in awhile.

This past week I finished my Uber driver application process for Cleveland, OH. I have good things about the potential earnings. Some making over $300 in a night after expenses. Much better alternative to my current part time gig and likely double to triple $ with far fewer and better environment. If it goes well I may rent an uber phone for $10 a week and run Lyft app on my main phone.
