Re: Camporama 2016
We're still in the planning stage for next year, but I'm leaning towards trying to go to this. Kind of funny since we haven't even made it to a Pow Wow yet, but I think it would be a good experience for the boys.

Re: Camporama 2016
I wont be going.
1 I only have 1 Ranger that is eligible to go. (Male over 9 years old)
2 $350 a person (non chartered-early reg price) is too rich for me.

It is expensive especially when you factor in travel costs plus a week off from work, but I think if the boys really want to go they can participate in fund raisers and raise most if not all of the cost in a year.
I definitely see the difficulty with having only one eligible boy though too.
So do you camp, or are there cabins? Curious how much gear we'd need to take if we do end up going.

Re: Camporama 2016
Its a campout Philip! Even techies, fine arts, and space rangers have to camp in a tent... Hope you enjoy ice cold showers they are colder than the arctic. I don't get how it's so cold when its so hott above ground.

I may go if I can hitch a ride and just volunteer most of the week.

Re: Camporama 2016
Well I wasn't sure. How hot does Missouri get in July??? Might have to bring my generator and AC unit!
Was also thinking that Camporama might be a good time for us to do that forum meet up idea we floated awhile ago.

Re: Camporama 2016
Just to clarify here, we ARE able to bring generators and mobile AC units, or not? Hate to sound all wussy and stuff, but while I wouldn't mind a hot night here and there, I don't know if 5 hot nights in a row would be awesome... (I'm imagining Claymore rolling his eyes at this line of questioning. )
This isn't a make it or break it issue for me whether we go or not, but if we CAN do it, then why not???

Re: Camporama 2016
I bring my Ice air but it's 12 volt and it makes no noise. The folks with the generators and AC units generally stay down at Roaring River state park and drive in and drive out each day and night. Not a bad option.
The staff and vip's get airconditioned cabins. It's for the good of the event.
Just buck up and put a smile on your face and come prepared to lose some weight.
One year it was hot. Other years it's been reasonable. Prepare for hot.

Re: Camporama 2016
Generators last time was told not permitted. Probably do to noise. If you got a quiet one bring it and secure it. Ohio had a charging tent for cell phones. I used a deep cycle battery for cpap, charging phones, and an inverter for ac devices. They do offer ice for sale so a igloo macgyvered with a fan might do you good for ac air at night. Temp drops fast after dark. An igloo cooler ac unit may do the trick. A good cooler with loads of ice works well.
Some tips. I saw some outpost put large canopies over the tents to shade them during the day. I used a water backpack to drink as often as I needed to. Keep hydrated.
If you are set to go Philip I am more inclined to hook up with an outpost here and tag along since my local church runs its youth camp that same week. Without boys I will likely volunteer my time often but would like to meet a good rebel like you too!

Re: Camporama 2016
Sure and we need to get Dan and Strods back down there.
It's really worth going. It's hot and it's a lot of stuff but it's still worth it.

Speaking of Strods where has that boy been? He was the one to blame for the swirling glow sticks at evening service haha.

That reminds me of the one and only luau I ever attended. The food was great, but the show reminded me of a cheap, off-Vegas production. Very cheesy.RRCmdrBennett wrote: the swirling glow sticks at evening service
