Camporama 2016
I got a huge favour to ask of someone...
I am exploring what it would take to get my son and I to Camporama. I can get cheap flights from Vancouver to Layfetteville AK. The challenge is getting to eagle rock and back to the airport. I could rent a car but that really hurts to pay just to get there, park and get back.
Any suggestions?

Re: Camporama 2016
Jeremy, I don't think that anyone is ignoring your plight, but there are pretty few of us that live around Eagle Rock. Eagle Rock could kind-of be considered in the lower Mid-West. I'm in the deep South, about 350 miles away.
If you look at the postings, there are only about 10 to 15 active members here. Now imagine how spread out it would be with 10 to 15 active Commanders across Canada????? (I know that Canada has more land area than the U.S., but 50% of it is non-populated frozen tundra.)

Re: Camporama 2016
Best bet is to shop for a cheap flight from Alaska to Missouri & then rent a car from there.

Where does Alaska come into this equation? I'm not that far north.
I was hoping that maybe someone has some inside knowledge that's all. Thanks anyway

Re: Camporama 2016
Looks like our final commitments will be 6 rangers and 5 adults. Van already reserved and the church impressively stood by their word and agreed to pay for the rental fee.

Thats bad we are impressed when a church stands by their promises.

You fly into Springfield, MO and I can get you down there... or someone from springfield can. It's only 87 miles from spfd.

I found out that RRI will arrange pick up and drop off to the airport for international campers. I suppose I qualify as that.
Thanks for the offer Mark, I'll let you know if I need that.

Oh sorry, your first post said you could get a flight into "Layfetteville AK." AK is Alaska Or did you mean Arkansas? (AR)

To be clear what the situation was historically we have use personal vehicles for camp trips.
About a year ago the deacons got concerned about insurance liability issues if some sort of accident occurred. Since the church doesn't have a van to use they made the decision for all off campus activities the ministry heads needed to rent a van in the churches name. That would put the dealer first for liability , the church second , and then the driver 3rd as compared to 1st in a personal vehicle. As far as church policies go, this one wasn't too bad.
Since the board realized that they were the ones imposing the requirement, they said the church would foot the bill. No additional costs to the group, no need to fund raise it etc..
Well over the last year they've done just that and been great. But those costs are a little over $100 for a 2-3 day camp 1 hour away. Camporama was is a $750 price tag, that's a little different animal so I specifically advised them the cost and asked how that was going to happen. If even part of the cost was going to be passed to Rangers that means we needed another fund raiser just for it.
Fortunately, it the church stuck to it's word so they are covering full cost for the van.
It's nice to be supported sometimes.

Re: Camporama 2016
Boards are bored so they need to be tweaking stuff. Sometimes they tweak it in the right direction. I like that when it happens.
Most of the time...committee's and boards just like old testament law they get us all bound up and it takes the Blood of Jesus to set us free!!! I have been on some of these boards and even though we need them to conduct business not all decisions are the right ones. If we were perfect we could expect more. WE all need to keep trying. It's good stuff Royal Rangers Ministry.

Re: Camporama 2016
Had to decide aboutgoing to camporama or not. I felt that God actually closed the door on it. But he opened a window. I now get to fly out with my whole family to see my parents and my sisters.we found such a deal on flights we couldn't say no.
See you at camporama 2020 or in heaven, which ever comes first!
