Re: January Greetings thread
Wow you've quite a long season and several gun seasons. Interesting single shot seasons. I have a single shot .44 mag and .410 shotgun. I assume single shot includes muzzloader and centerfire correct?

Re: January Greetings thread
They are supposed to be single shot, metallic cartridge, with an exposed hammer, and resembling a model made prior to 1900.
Because Wesson & Harrington made a break-action buffalo rifle in 1871, the H&R Buffalo Classic was allowed, then they opened it up to Handi-Rifles, and Encores, because they looked like a "bobbed-off" Model 1871.
However, a Ruger #1 does not qualify, because it does not have an exposed hammer.
The rule pertains to cartridge rifles, but you can also use muzzle loaders during any gun season (just as you can use single-shot rifles during Modern Gun Season).

Re: January Greetings thread
I love how you don't need to tag or register kills. I have a NEF H&R single shot .44 mag with hinge action and exposed hammer.
Here we just started permitting straight walled cartridge rifles as well as shotguns. March 27 we allow noise suppressors for hunting too.

Re: January Greetings thread
The wife just cooked up fresh venison liver.
I've got it dressed, skinned, & quartered. Time to go back out and get to cutting jerky.
Hopefully, smoked ribs tomorrow.

Re: January Greetings thread
I got to the Marriott 45 mins early. Norfolk Southern gave a ppt and video presentation for an hour. The head of the terminal spoke about the company. They lay it out raw you will be on call 24/7/365 will work nights, weekends, and holidays. They have a ton of benefits too. They explained if you retire with a $4k pension your spouse will receive a $2k pension check in addition to yours! Thats $6k combined plus 401k. If 401k is $2k that would easily exceed $8k a month.
I passed the conductors test. They needed volunteers who schedule their interview next week due to the volume of applicants. There were 35 of us. I didn't notice many missing after the results came back. It came down to needing 14 to reschedule interviews. I held out till there were onl 4 more needed. I didn't want to waste the whole day if they didn't interview me today. After interviewing next week they call you with a conditional offer on passing background checks and medical and drug screen. The HR guy recommended practicing the static hang test where you hang on a bar with 3 pts of contact. I went to the gym and did it twice with both hands for 3 mins straight without regripping.

I'm working my son through Tool Craft. Been slow going the last few mths but seemed to click with him today. He joins DR this summer and if he's at the camps. I'd like him to be able to carry a simple pocket knife.

Re: January Greetings thread
Don't get too misty, Strods.
I had an uncle who had 9 kids (7 boys and 2 girls). One evening, I was sitting at his kitchen table (they had a picnic table in the kitchen to feed all the kids), and his 21 year old son came in with 2 other young men.
They said, "Hi, Dad." "Hi, Mr. A." "Hi, Mr. A.", and immediately went upstairs.
My uncle turned to me and said, "You raise them up for 18 years and finally get them off into the Army. Three years later, they come back and bring their friends."

Ya, I remember doing that toy folks. Our family has always been like the hangman's galos. Always room for one more.
