Re: September Thread
After your post concerning Ambassador Stevens being killed to keep him quiet about Heat Seeking Missiles being sent to al-Quaeda by our own State Department, you've been promoted to Minister of Information.

Re: September Thread
Well, I got a call on Tuesday night; I'm teaching Hunter Safety on Saturday.
On Wednesday, called the State Fish & Game Department to rush us written materials & tests.
Drove 30 miles to the Gun Club on Thursday evening to pick up a copy of the Lesson Outline and Final Exam.
1 day to cram and get my Training Aids together; plenty of time.

Re: September Thread
Good job. Were heading out tonight with 20 boys and a few men going exploring and camping out in the Wilderness. Yup Wild times are a head.
I have 24 cans of cold pop icing for a reward when we get back to the truck after 10 miles. I love backpacking and hiking. Would rather do it then anything I know of.

Re: September Thread
Had our third COA tonight and it went pretty well again. We've turned it into more of a cookout setting with all the families coming and that seems to work pretty well. Our crowd was even larger this time around because of the recently added American Heritage Girls program we've started. That program has started out with a bang! We have about 10-12 girls coming to the meetings. I really like that program much better than the Mpact (or whatever it is called these days). To be honest AHG reminds me of the oldE school Missionettes in that it's more organized and filled with cool merits for the girls to work on. IMHO, the decision to convert the AG's girl's program into more of a "hang out" (especially when the girls get beyond elementary school) was a mistake. There are plenty of "hang out" ministries out there. Why try to be another one? Oh well, at least there's AHG!

Re: September Thread
Philip, you echo our sentiments regarding RR2.0 being like other ministries for boys to hang out.

Re: September Thread
They've made it so you CAN operate an outpost as just a hang out, or whatever you want, but it hasn't been completely turned into that. You can still operate an outpost centered around camping if you want. And we do. In fact, we have another camp planned in a few weeks. I will say that we haven't done as much camping and hiking as I'd have liked to, but that's not national's fault. It takes cmdr's willing and able to get out into the woods with the boys. Our outpost leadership is made up of average working class men who have to work a lot. We have families, and other involvements that pull at our time. No, we haven't been as active as I hoped we'd be when we started all of this, but we're more active than a lot of outposts, and I hold hopes that as we build our leadership team we'll be even more active. We may have picked up another Cmdr or two tonight. The COA's with all the family members fellowshiping really helps draw people in.
So while I clearly see that the program has changed over time, they are far from the reason so many outposts are nothing more than a "Sunday school" ministry held at another time. That still comes down to the individual group of commanders. That is different than completely removing everything after a certain age. Imagine that after Discovery Rangers the curriculum and merits all went away and it was just a hang out time.... That's Mpact now.

MPACT does seem to be all about sitting around & talking.Phillip Gross wrote:To be honest AHG reminds me of the oldE school Missionettes in that it's more organized and filled with cool merits for the girls to work on. IMO that is part of the reason it failed here. The girls were THRILLED when they folded into Rangers & got to be up doing things & playing games.
I have heard a lot of good things about American Heritage Girls.
