February 2023 Thread
Another month closer to the Rapture.
The skies around here have been cloudy for a week, so I haven't had an opportunity to see Comet ZTF yet. It's now visible in the evening. Look above and to the right of Polaris (in the Big Dipper) in dark skies, and you'll see a fuzzy spot. With binoculars, you should make out its greenish color, and with a modest home telescope, it's tail.

Re: February 2023 Thread
It's rainy here, so no comet-watching.
About 2 years ago, there was a big rumble about a comet. I took my fairly-decent astronomical telescope and my cell phone with a star-gazing program to show me where to find the comet.
It winds up that the telescope was too powerful, and all that you could see was the fuzzy white cloud of the comet body. With a modest pair of 50X Binoculars, I could make out the whole Comet and Tail.
More expensive isn't always better.

Heading back to nights. Both my overnight drivers quit yesterday,
So I will be rolling down the road at night for teh next 4-6 weeks.
Mixed feelings about this.
Good: I get a $100 per night bonus for driving overnights. I get access to free (out of date) food up at HQ
Not so good: Dont get to see my family very much & dont get to go to church much

Re: February 2023 Thread
Within the last couple of weeks, and according to our government...
Threat: Three $15 science fair balloons that were quickly shot down at a cost of $1.6 million
Non-threat: a Chinese spy balloon that overflew the entire country, collecting intelligence from sensitive installations
Threat: Catholics who prefer a Latin mass are potential domestic terrorists, according to the FBI
Non-threat: The president's obvious poor mental health, which continues to be covered up by his administration, most recently by his doctor in the last few days.
Threat: A growing number of parents who challenge pornography and sexual grooming of kids in schools
Non-threat: a major toxic chemical spill in a small Ohio town, that has the potential to poison the water source for 10% of all Americans, and which the feds tried their best to ignore
Just getting warmed up......

Re: February 2023 Thread
Ate out tonight. As I suspected from his bearing, physical condition and outstanding service, our waiter was about a year out of the military. We talked a bit as my mom and wife went to the car. (Didn't want her to see how much I tipped him.) Told the guy he could go as far as he wanted in the restaurant business or anywhere else. "Ooh-rah, sir!"
