Re: Fire from water
This is a variation of the magnifying glass but better. The coke Christmas bulbs do very well too.

Re: Fire from water
Absolutely Outstanding.
I saw this technique years ago, but forgot about it.

Re: Fire from water
I looked at a few more of his videos and learned how to get a fire going with paper and a magnifying glass. That was a new idea that I didn't know about. He shows doing it with grass and a piece of paper as well. The Black print is what works. Holds in the heat. Lots of cool ideas on this guys website.

Lots of cool stuff on that guy's youtube channel. I loved the Rocket launcher so much that I will have to do that with my boys

Re: Fire from water
I'm thinking of making a batch of "Rocket Fuel" with the boys, and launching a home-made rocket in the soybean field behind the Church.

Careful, guys. It's only a molecule or two away from firewater.

Re: Fire from water
Y'all can keep that! I don't want anything to do with anything that's radioactive! I worked down around the Savannah River Site years ago here in South Carolina where they make weapons grade uranium. I didn't like being around that area. I was working on a facility that was basically a hopped up laundry mat that cleaned the suits after they'd been exposed.
Hunters have reported some messed up looking deer running around that part of the state. Lots of guys go there to make top dollar doing construction, but I've never liked being down there.

Re: Fire from water
The Navy's CIWS (close-in weapons system) gun mounts are designed to shoot down incoming missiles. Because the target is so small, coming straight at you, the rounds are hardened with depleted uranium. Even a glancing blow is enough to throw the missile off. And all over the ship's decks are hundreds of contaminated pieces of plastic and metal from the belts that were fed through the 6-barrel gun mounts. For years, we just picked them up by hand and threw them over the side.

Yeah, but there are advantages.....
...........like not needing to turn on the light, when you get up to go to the bathroom at night, because of your own ambient glow..........

Re: Fire from water
The Canadian Navy did away with the depleted uranium rounds not long after I got posted on ship. It wasnt until long after they got rid of them that I figured out why the Weapons Techs wore the little brown badge with the tin foil cover. ( radiation monitors) The Canadian public still think that we have never had nuclear weapons in our arsonal. (Ok small scale but still glowing)

We never got that far. You were definitely one-up on us.
Somewhat related story. I was on an oiler that was refueling an Aegis cruiser once. Coincidentally, our ship had a couple of civilians onboard who were testing some mysterious equipment temporarily installed. They couldn't figure out why it was all going haywire until it was discovered that the cruiser hadn't turned off its new radar system while alongside us. We had been radiated for an hour. Everyone topside, including myself, had to have a series of eye tests to establish a baseline...to compare with in case we all went blind.
