Eagle Scout...Finally!
Well everybody, good news. My son Caleb completed all the requirements for his Eagle Scout Rank and turned in his Eagle Project book and Application. FINALLY with 9 days to to go before his 18th birthday. I think he was trying to beat my record of waiting 2 1/2 hours before I was 18 years old.
His last merit badge was Emergency Preparedness. His MB councilor was impress with how he worked on his badge. One of the requirements is to have a service project planned out. Most youth do a lost child search and rescue, but a scout could help in a disaster, real or otherwise. So Caleb asked me when the councilor was going to have a project for him. I laughed and said that Steve works all day and does not have the time to plan it. I added, "Leaders make things happen whereas followers wait for things to happen. So he made the arrangements and put on the event.
He ended up getting 3 troop scouts and one Girl Scout troop to participate. OK, his sister was one of the Girl Scouts and was the victim. I took her out on a trail and told her to "Get Lost"! She gave me an eye roll for that. She went into a ravine and I followed. I texted my son saying "I have fallen and I can't get up!" So he had to rescue two people now. He knew I was going to pull something like this to throw in a monkey wrench into his plans.
So the rescue went well and he ended up earning his last requirement. He also helped out 9 other scouts to get that requirement done.
So we have to wait for the letters of recommendations to come in and the board of review. After that, we have to wait for BSA National to approve everything. Caleb got Pastors Chris and Josiah (Eagle Scout) as 2 references as well as two teachers.
The Scoutmaster briefed him on the BOR. He asked him what he did to demonstrate "Duty to God". Caleb mentioned that he started a Bible Club at school, attend worship every week, Youth group every week, reads his Bible everyday, and runs his Bible Study at school. The SM did not know he was doing all these church activities. The SM said he would not have any problems at the BOR.
So this makes myself, my wife, his sister, and grandparents very happy and proud for his work done all these years in Royal Rangers and Boy Scouts.
