January Greetings Thread - Page 2 Empty Re: January Greetings Thread

Post by Phillip Gross January 11th 2014, 11:00 pm

Well I had a sad reality strike yesterday.... I finally got around to taking the engine down from the bike that Phillip Jr "melted" the piston in back in October. Well.... it didn't melt. I wish it had. Instead the rod snapped utterly destroying the engine. Crank, cylinder, cases, of course the piston and connecting rod, all gone! Basically left with some engine covers and gear box.

So I've got to figure out what to do with that chassis. I bought a running rolling chassis a couple weeks ago, so I can rob one bike of fuel tank, plastics, and a few other parts to have one to race coming up in February.

I've got two options with that chassis. I can either build another modified two stroke, or drop a four stroke in. The two stroke are all but dead anymore. They're actually excellent to train on because they're so touchy you've got to be right on. Four strokes are more forgiving. I had wanted to keep Jr on the two strokes for another season or two, and I still might... Just don't know yet.

No matter how you cut the cake I've got a lot to do in the near future. Going into the season with only one bike is not preferable. If you break then all your travel expenses and entry fees are down the drain. Having a backup alleviates that. Also it's good to keep the second bike set up for rain, both in tires and engine setup. Not necessarily a sluggish engine, buy not as snappy as the main/dry track bike.

So that's my vent. It was frustrating as we pealed back the layers of engine to find increasing destruction. But as they say, "that's racing".

And that other frustratingly accurate saying, "You know how to make a little money in racing? Start with a lot."

Yes. That is true verbal violence. It's been my experience that wifes will be patent for a while..then threaten to invoke motion. GRIN!

I am thankful Chris and Christy have a pastor for their church and for them to be blessed by the sharing of the Gospel.

Usually cross-eyed glances, silent treatments, and "you know why I'm mad I'm not telling you" usually works better than threats...

My personal best was when we had been married for 5 or 10 years.

I was sleeping and the wife hauled off and hit me, waking me up.

I said, "What was that for?"

She said, "It was for what you did in my dream".

I said, "What did I do?"

She said, "You know, because you just Did It!" She then went back to sleep.

I just wish that I could at least have the enjoyment of knowing what I did that I got hit for.  scratch

Post by Claymore January 25th 2014, 7:35 pm

Congrats on the new Pastor.

I have been down with Bronchitis & Confined to Quarters since Christmas.

I just heard on the National News that Liquid Propane was $1.75 per gallon last week, $3.50 this week, and going to $5.00 next week.  That will cost me $1,000.00 to fill my tank.

Now I know why the Supplier wouldn't sell me more than 75 gallons last week at $3.19.

So I forced myself outside and got a load of wood cut & split.

Unfortunately, I only have enough seasoned wood for four more really cold days, and the Weather Man says that another blast is coming next week.

Take car of yourself that lung problem can turn to pneumonia and fluid very quick and very deadly. We've had two associates die within a week of each other due to infections.

If I had waited too long that day to get to the ER I would have went hypoxic at home and maybe died in 2013

No problem, I have the best Insurance in the World....

I took about a $60.00 per month decrease in my Retirement Pay. Now if I die at any time, my wife continues to collect my full retirement for the rest of her natural life, even if she re-marries.

Lately, she has been bringing my coffee in the morning, looking at me, and saying, "Hey. You don't look so good". Dunno
