Re: Royal Rangers stats
It is an AGENDA.
And it is driven by some folks who have been told that they are smarter than everyone else, they believe it, and have "Whiz-Bang" ideas.
If this was a Company and New Leadership came in, changed everything over, and had the results that we have seen, the new "Whiz-Kids" would be replaced and long-forgotten by now.
You know, Sears tried to vary from the core things that they did best. They had products of all levels and a reputation for reliable service. I believe that Sears was the largest Retail Sales Company in the Nation, at one time.
Then they got into Sears Brand Cameras, Sears Life Insurance, Sears Dental Clinics, and they didn't hold up to their original Core Values.
I purchased a new Snow Thrower from Sears in 1984. The main drive sprocket for the auger stripped in the first year or two. I took it to their Service Center in Milwaukee, and was told that they don't carry that model any more, and that they don't do Service Support for it.
I was a first, or second year Police Rookie, making $19,000.00 per year, and I could not afford to drop another $350.00 every other year for a Snow Thrower from Sears. (There was also a $78.00 per day fine for unshovelled sidewalks, and cops were expected to keep their property in line with the City Ordinances.)
After getting messed-over by the "New" Sears, I haven't shopped in one of their stores since about 1986.
You need to be careful. If you try to expand by alienating your base supporters, you will not have a "Net Gain" in the end.

Re: Royal Rangers stats
If you look at the national AG website (www.ag.org) today, you'll see a RR/BSA news item. Click on it to go to an article by Doug, which includes the following:
"Currently, an estimated 125,000 boys, young men and adults...in 4000 outposts..." After years of decline, RR has jumped by nearly a third in the last 3 years? Hmmmm. Miracle or accounting error?

Re: Royal Rangers stats
Over the past 2 years, Church of God of Cleveland Tennessee replaced its scouting program, Pioneers for Christ, with Royal Rangers.
You did not see the immediate jump in Rangers, because it took some time for churches to decide if & how they wanted to make the transition.
So the 1/3 jump is "real" but it can also be fleeting if R/R National doesn't exercise wise stewardship in this windfall.

Re: Royal Rangers stats
I think Doug was vision casting again. Not really a real number there.
I would liken that to inflation. Printing more money but not really any more product out there.
It would be nice to see 125,000 in Rangers. If they are real where are they at?

Re: Royal Rangers stats
OK, here are some figures that I threw together:
Church of God reports to have 4,000,000 members.
Now, if 25 percent of those may be inactive or from Overseas Churches, that leaves 3,000,000.
When our church ran an attendance of 200, we had 8 to 12 boys coming to Rangers.
So, 3,000,000 divided by 200 = 15,000
15,000 x 8 to 12 rangers (average 10) = 150,000
So the POTENTIAL is there for another 150,000 boys in Rangers from the Church of God, IF they were as committed as our church (but we had a previously trained A/G R/R Leader on-site).
So the 125,000 number could Potentially be there.
(Mark this date down in history. I am actually providing information that can help National in supporting their claims.)

Re: Royal Rangers stats
Take CoG out of the equation and just look at A/G #'s and I think its a much different picture. To many in CoG Royal Rangers maybe a new thing and RR2.0 is all they know. Give me the total-CoG=A/G

Re: Royal Rangers stats
I would love to see the stats rising above the 1999 level. That would mean we were running a Godly Camping program that was bent around Jesus Christ and him crucified. Woo who wouldn't that be wonderful.

Grrrrr! Don't get me started on that change malarkie!
Jesus is the same yesterday today & tomorrow. That doesn't change.
As for our scouting/camping if anything the rarity of those skills makes them more needed not outdated. Get a boy around a fire in the dark of night & every one of them will stare into it ! Just like his forefathers back to Christ, Noah, Adam.
We teach the word and natural world. That doesn't change!

Re: Royal Rangers stats
We teach our boys fire is your second priority in survival. Most assume food or water. The elements will kill you faster than lack of water or food. Shelter is first then fire, third is water, then food last. Next year we are doing a full year program hoorah! In Ohio we don't get much weather to go outside on Wed nights.

Re: Royal Rangers stats
We are heading out in 30 to 40 degree day weather and 24 for the low weather at night time and a chance of snow...40% this weekend. Should be a fun challenge..then add to that 14 river crossings some mid leg. Woo whoo Rangers!

Last week we did our survival camp. AR + ER only, no tents. dropped to 20 degrees overnight. My personal coldest camp , though my co-coordinator has done a 10 degree night before. Show off

Re: Royal Rangers stats
We are looking forward to it. Weather report has our numbers down by about half but still 8 or so going.
We got this cold spell it's in the teens for chill factor. Possibly snow on Saturday. If it sticks that might be a factor as it's a 100 mile drive down there. If it does we will move the hike closer to about 20 miles away.
