Since we're so new, we're just pushing full steam ahead. I'm sure we'll have a better feel for what we should do next year. We're still just feeling everything out.

Re: Summer Schedule
If you can keep the momentum going and the boys and leaders excited enough I say run it 52 weeks a year like most other ministries do.

This will be the first year since 2008 that we haven't taken a summer break.

Re: Summer Schedule
I do not absolutely follow with the Leadership Guide.
It has some good resources, but I find that the boys get bored, if the outline is the same week-to-week.
Fortunately, God has given me the gift of coming up with a Program of Instruction on short notice, and it always works out.
One day, during a Leader's Course, the Instructor said, "How do you know when your Lesson Plan is Finished?"
I replied, "When it's 45 minutes before meeting time, and I haven't showered, yet!"

Re: Summer Schedule
Church wants us to take a month off. WE shut down for 2 weeks but build Regatta boats and attend events during that time.
I found that everytime we shut down rangers it takes about 4 times the amount of time we shut down for to get it backup up to speed again and the hardest part is loosing the boys to other activities.
Mark Jones.
p.s.
It's policy but it's not a good policy when you look at the long term affects.

Re: Summer Schedule
I agree.
While it is nice to get a break, sometimes it's not worth the amount of "catch-up" that you have to do.
We furnish uniforms to the boys. They take their T-Shirts home, but the dress uniforms stay in the closet at the Ranger Room.
After 2 or 3 months of summer recess, half of the kids don't fit in their uniforms any more; some kids have worked on advancements, while others didn't, and 20% of the kids that you see are new, and you have to bring them up-to-speed with the Program.
As you said, it takes 2 months to just get back to where you were when you left off.

Re: Summer Schedule
When I txt'd back my church secretary that we were out 2nd wed of June till first week of Aug she replied to me that she was proud of me for giving up Aug. It was the strangest reply I've ever received. My hands are tied I give up on summer meetings. We'll do some events.

Re: Summer Schedule
We have 3 weeks off in July, but one is the day before the 4th. The next weekend, then the third weekend is a church business meeting.
Normally we dont take off more than this.
Boys are at home and can work on projects and skills.
I suppose it does depend on the amount of help in leadership.

Re: Summer Schedule
It has been a rainy mild summer so far. We've had as much rain in a week as we normally have all month for July.
