Re: October thread
A couple of years ago, on Valentine's, our Church had a Couples' Dinner.
They played a version of "The Newlywed Game", and I would up being drafted into it. The men went out, questions were asked of our wives, and we then returned.
One of the questions was, "What about you, irritates your wife most?"
When it came to be my turn, I gave an answer, but it did not match. The lady from church reading the questions said that my wife wrote, "You never listen to her."
I looked up, and said, "Say Wha?"
She said, "Your wife said that you never lis......" (followed by laughter in the church).

Claymore, you can use the fallback excuse you don't listen well cause of all the shots you've heard during your careers in the Army and police dept

Re: October thread
Looks like fun. We had a post shoot with blackpowder. I wonder how long it would take with that gun. A minute or two and 30.00 worth of ammo. I have no idea.
Went to see Captian Phillips at the movies yesterday with my wife and son and his girlfriend. It was a good movie. Pretty intense.
Brought home a Surface 2 tablet with a detachable keyboard from bestbuy Friday night. I have been loading stuff up on it. It's one of the first tablets that allow you to use it like a full desktop computer. It's fast. You can see the difference with your eyes. I have loaded most of my software on it
Like anything else it takes some getting used to

Re: October thread
Rounds of 5.56mm come out to .47 cents a piece. It can also shoot .223 which maybe cheaper. A box of 20 runs $11. At first they were afraid it would kick but it doesn't recoil much.Mark Jones wrote:Looks like fun. We had a post shoot with blackpowder. I wonder how long it would take with that gun. So Dan, were you able to measure any 5-shot groups out of your rifle?

Re: October thread
Wow! Those Rangers were wired up tonight. Sr. Guide, didn't show, Patrol Guide didn't show. The other 2 Jr Commanders were 20 min late. We had first Aid leasons and then boiled a egg in a paper cup firecraft style. They had a great time.
I get animated when they start doing their own thing and not listening. I have two boys that are JR Commanders that spend a great deal of time talking with out listening and doing what they are told to do. They are good young men but I get frustrated with them as they talk way to much. I say quit talking and start walking. GRIN!
We ate 10 boiled eggs...the were GEEERATE!

Re: October thread
I did the previous time I shot it.
There was crosswinds Sat which didn't help. Most shots were still on the target. In the beginning we weren't using the barrel rest.
I was able to gather most of my 5.56mm brass. Maybe someday I'll reload it.

Re: October thread
Dan what did it cost you to go to the range and shoot as far as ammo went?
I spent about 100 bucks getting my black powder rifle back up to speed for 100 shots.
When we did our small bore nra rifle merit we each shot 100 rounds. State picked up the fee on that for about 20 of us shooting. 2000 rounds. I haven't bought any ammo so it was sticker shock to me when I did.

Re: October thread
Ammo was .47cents a round. We shot 50 rnds I guess. Less than $24.
After this weekend I'll be adding a few items to my gun kit. I liked the silicone cloth, boresnakes, and little adjustable light.

Re: October thread
That is reasonable. If you turn that on as fast as it will shoot one could spend a hundred bucks in a couple of minutes I would amagine.
When the police officer came out on our Ranger campout years back he shot his in 3 modes, Full auto it was like in the movies, then burst of 3 and then single shot as fast as you could pull the trigger. Ammo was purchased by the city and he counted it as shooting time...them boys wanted those machine gun shells. Wooo whoo Rangers.. a machine gun shell...a real one.

Re: October thread
If I'm not mistaken "machine gun" shells are no different than ammo that goes into my semi-auto only AR-15. Since he was a LEO he had access for class III weapons which has a select-fire switch on the right side. They are technically "legal" for us but require you to buy a tax stamp for $200, an extensive background check, have $10k+ to buy one made prior to 1986, and locate an FFL who can transfer class III weapons to you.
People easily confuse the AR-15 with the fully auto M16's cause it has the same basic design.
That would definitely make for a memorable camp-out.

How many days were your guys on the range for this merit?
I just looked over the requirements, & it appears that my guys could do it in about two Saturdays (after I ran them through the Classroom portion).

We had no Rangers last night. Youth group put on a family fun night for the church. They had a bunch of games set up in the fellowship hall with candy for prizes. The youth kids ran the games for the younger kids. While us adults scarfed down popcorn, donuts & cider:thumb:
