Re: Self Sufficiency
We are naming our breeding stock as we won't be eating these! The kids (my children, not goat kids) have decided that this little buck should be named "Oddie", like from Garfield. It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, so I guess that'll be his name!
Now I've got to find some does for him....

Re: Self Sufficiency
My Sr. Commander has about 15 goats in his middle pasture. He uses them to keep the weeds down and on occassion someone comes out and butchers one.
I come in to drop off a load of old wet cardboard boat regatta onto his burn pile and they all come up looking me over and climbing up on the cardboard.

Today is a good day to learn swmming. I figure for safety and liability Mark has the kids in life vests.

Yup gotta wear life vests Cove is only about 7 foot deep out in the middle of it..but I still want them wearing vests.
Ok to bring this back to topic. Building your own boat out of card board could save your life.

Re: Self Sufficiency
Self-sufficiency is a rather broad topic. Don't worry I'm the only one that gets pulled over for hijacking threads... I think Mark would make a good MacGuyver
Cardboard boats could save our lives by... Mark will have to figure that out.

Re: Self Sufficiency
Howdy!
Back to goats, and un-hijacking the thread . . .
I once knew a few goats who got into some antifreeze a pard left laying around. He, the goat was caught in the act of drinking it, but we did not know how much he consumed. So these hardcore Christians, with deep faith, went to the liquor store for the first time ever and bought some hard stuff. I put it in a surenge (spelling, its a plastic needle) and forced it down the goats throat, getting him a little tipsy.
Was suppose to dilute the antifreeze (hopefully) enough to decrease any damage to his system.
So . . . if your in your bunker, in a self sufficiency situation and your goat drinks anti freeze, get him drunk.
The goat made it through. We do not know if it was because we got him drunk, or because he didnt drink enough to kill him.

He didnt like me much after that. But that might be because I had a little problem with him slamming my daughters legs into the stall door with a head but.

Re: Self Sufficiency
One of the guys on my crew was head butted by a goat while working on the phone lines at a rual house WE had a good time with it for a while making goat sounds.....Naaaaaaah, Naaaaah. How's it going Micky. HA!
I had a rooster one time try and take me down. I warned him good and proper that I was going to win. GRIN! He sure had me watching my back while I was at that premis. I think I know why Phillip has those goats. Meat and security services. Did you all notice how I brought that back around to stay on topic. That's how it's done.
