Adventures in Camping . . . Discontinued
So reality really hit me today. Supply order for the new year. I like to get the Rangers a handbook with something they can sink their teeth into, so for DR & Up, we have always used Adventures in Camping . . . until now. When we went to order we found that GPH is out of stock and no longer producing.
I get that Nat'l doesn't want to be just a camping ministry, but can I at least get an e copy of the book? I'd print that.
I remember being a scout and wearing my handbook out practicing knots, looking at the pictures of lean-to tents, etc. I don't see that happening with the current handbooks.
If I have a chart on the wall and the website for merits, I don't see the point of charging the boys good money for the official handbook. I'm honestly looking at not running with an official handbook. I still have my copy and I may see if I can pick up a copy here or there for the outpost. but dang.....

I'm in the same boat with you. I'm not sure if the pledges, some info on patrol methods, and an advancement trail check off is worth $13.50 per boy every few years.... Maybe it is, but I don't know. I do wish they had more relevant information within each handbook.
Hmmmm. Maybe they're planning on incorporating the adventures in camping info into new handbooks! Too optimistic????

Didn't they just redo these handbooks recently?

Fairly recently, but if it meant incorporating info from adventures in camping into them I'd be ALL for another redo!
