Your paint came up pretty well.
Did you put a white base under the red? That will generally enhance the brightness.
I've used craft paint with some success in the past, but that was not for a "hard carry" pistol (they generally had Trijicons).
I did just touch up two of my pieces (including the Kel-Tec) with white appliance epoxy touch-up, and I've heard that it may be more durable. The appliance epoxy is available in most larger hardware stores, and comes in a bottle about the size of a "white-out" container.

I will probably paint the sight on my new SR9. At some point upgrade the XDm to trijicon night sights.
