Well my surface pro 2 took a fall. Screen cracked. Price to fix it is about the same as buying a new one. Still works but it's getting dated. So after looking around ordered this yesterday. Supposed to be here on Saturday...2 day free shipping!

Reviews are pretty good. This is about half the price I paid for the surface pro 2. Bought the 3 year if you drop it we fix it plan.

I like small but big enough to use. This seemed to fit the bill. The 500 gig hard drive will be a plus. The surface only had 128 gig. I kept having to move stuff off of it

It's nice to see the prices for these things going way down and the 2 day delivery is awesome!

Let me know how you like it. I have the Surface Pro 2 as well. I really like it, or maybe I'm just used to it. Either way I usually hate getting something new. I'm definitely not a techniphile. I want something that works, then leave me alone!  Don't always need the latest and greatest just to have it, but I do like to know what's good for when my stuff kicks the bucket.

Microsoft really bombed out on the surface on fixing it when it's broken. It takes a heat gun and about a hour of prying on it to take the screen off. Sometimes these nerds have no common sense. This is one of those times. GRIN!.

Will let you know on this ASUS. My sister in law has had one for over a year. She just hits face book. Yet it's supposed to be a cheap replacement of a surface pro2. Will see.

Looks like a great machine and a lot of mola to play cool games on.

I go for cheap and utility. I think I have had almost a dozen laptops over the years. I am glad they are coming down in price.

I probably wouldn't buy it. I'd pick a mid range system.

Hey I actually like this thing. It's a tad slower than the surface and the only reason it is is because it has a 500 gig drive in the keyboard that is being accessed by I assume usb. So sometimes there is a tad delay. I am used to that because at work (at&t) it's all networked... a tad slower but the networked information is never stale.

If I just use the built in 62 gig it's as fast. I have made several HD movies on it for our COA wed night. Did all my ranger database power point stuff and got all my data transferred over..that took me better part of 2 days off and on to get that done. Still finding programs and data files I have to pull over to it.

The question will be dependability. It seems pretty solid. I am very careful with the ports so it should be good. I can even charge this thing off of my biolite stove if I get into a survival situation..grin.

So far so good. They warned about the key board being tiny but for me it works. I am getting the keyboard down and just have to hunt the shift key now. Better keyboard than the surface.

Explain how you charge it off your biolite stove?

I have not put it to the test yet. It should. It uses a micro usb to charge the laptop and the biolite will charge my usb devices. Connectivity wish it will hook up. The biolite can produce enough to charge my battery pack. I will hook it up to see if it will charge off my rechargeable usb battery pack.



The Asus did real well last night. It ran 10 hours with out a charge. It was not doing anything but it was on.
I will plug it up tonight to the rechargeable pack and see if it gets a charge from that.

What is better about the keyboard than the Surface Pro 2's? I hate the D pad, so I always run a wireless mouse with mine. With only the one USB port I usually have to run a splitter. How many USB ports do you have with the new one?

Same thing. I have a powered hub for the USB stuff. The Asus just feels a lot more robust and the keyboard feels more sturdy to type on. The surface keyboard was almost too thin and if it wasn't on a flat surface it could get warped a bit.

Surface is still a good product than the Asus but with the broken screen and the cost to have it fixed it didn't pan out as well. The Microsoft Nerds missed the boat on drops. I can buy a new older model surface pro 2 for the price of replacing the plastic touch screen. I loved it before the drop!

Nowadays cell phone retailers are giving a $100 rebate off a new phone when you bring in an old phone that has an intact screen. $100 for a little screen shows how pricey they are.

I've considered the surface pro 3 for its laptop / tablet capability. I'm currently using iphone so an ipad would be the logical upgrade with apple.

Have you two used the surface as a tablet alone and what do you think of it?

I have a ipad I use at work. I don't like the tablets so I have always used my surface pro 2 as a laptop using the keyboard and a mouse.

I hate to fill out reports on the ipad. The company won't provice a keyboard for it if they did.... I might feel different.

My wife loves the ipad she had. My son went to a windows laptop but uses his smart phone Samsung 5 as much as anything.

The Asus works well. I have yet to disconnect the keyboard. The touch screen works fine. I just don't like touching the screen.

The Lazer mouse was such a big improvement over the rubber balls in the mouse that you had to clean every few days. Some technology is wonderful! Not all of it is great! Just some of it.

It's been almost 2 weeks now with the ASUS t100 62 with 500 gig hard drive. Once I put my data and programs on I haven't fired up the surface pro 2 since. Thinking of making the surface pro2 a server and throwing away my old server. It's a Celeron 1.2 running windows xp. Thing just keeps on running. Hate to give it up since it's no trouble. Grin. Perhaps I can see about selling my surface pro 2.

6 months later and the laptop is still running strong. I did loose a power transformer but it charges off of usb so that was no big deal. I could get it replaced with the warranty but for now no bother.

it was cheap. Just under 400 bucks. It's a hardy thing. It rolls off my truck seat at least once a week and keeps on ticking.
