Yeah! I kind-of figured that the stuff that you shot would be pretty "throaty".
I think that the stuff that you drove had more cylinders than what the rest of us had.
Most of my duty travel was by Parachute or LPC's.

Re: What have you shot lately?
42 years ago, I had a Marlin Model 336 in .35 Remington.
I traded it (even-up) for a Stainless Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle in 30-06.

Re: What have you shot lately?
I just acquired one from an army reservist through Ohio Gun Traders page on facebook. I posted it on American Arms on fb and got over 200 likes and all positive reviews. I found 4 videos on youtube from Brownells on how to strip, clean, reassemble, and lubricate the model 336. What did you like better about 30-06?

Re: What have you shot lately?
The .35 Remington "lobbs" a 200 grain bullet at 2,080 FPS with a muzzle energy of 1,900 foot/pounds.
The 30-06 fires a 185 grain bullet at 2,700 FPS with a muzzle energy of 2,900 foot/pounds.
Energy at 100 yards: .35 Remington = 1,279 foot/pounds, 30-06 = 2,820 foot/pounds.
Energy at 200 yards: .35 Remington = 839 foot/pounds, 30-06 = 2,281 foot/pounds.
A .35 Remington is pretty-much "maxed out" between 100 and 200 yards. The Army and Marine Corps shot rifle matches with the 30-06 out to 800 yards (with iron sights).
Also, because I shot Rifle Matches using M-1 Garands, I already had brass, reloading dies, and about 5,000 .30 Cal. projectiles handy.

Re: What have you shot lately?
I've heard the 30/30 is effective between 100-150 yards without scope and 200 yards with scope.

Re: What have you shot lately?
At 200 Yards, a 30-30 has 861 foot/pounds of energy.
That's only 66% of the muzzle energy of a .223 (and that rifle is illegal for deer in many states, because of perceived lack of energy).
I'm not saying that there is anything WRONG with a 30-30, so long as it is used within its limitations.
Anecdotal evidence is that, over the history of this nation, more Whitetail Deer have been harvested with a 30-30 than any other caliber.
In ballistics, it is virtually identical to the 7.62x39 Soviet. In fact, when I was instructing in the Military and there were no 7.62x39's sold here (prior to the 1980's), I described it as a "30-30 Rimless".

Ruger SR9 New Acquisition
Shoots well. Dead on accurate. Fired 51 rounds no FTF or FTL. manual safety worked. Trigger was great. Noticed when I smacked mag onto pistol the slide closed automatically. Slide it in easy stayed locked back.
Only locks on loaded mags. Empty mag it never closed slide. Must be a built in feature. Def makes for a faster tactical reload.
My XDm stays locked till I flip the slide lock lever. It has a silver stainless chamber indicator about 1" long on top red on sides and big letters says "Loaded when up". Ambi mag release and ambi manual slide safety was very nice also has a trigger safety like Glocks and Springfields XD lines have.
