10 Mile hike
This Friday is our first hike of the season (its finally dry enough)
Opening with a 10 miler this year. Most years we start with a 5, but last year they were begging to go farther. So farther it is
Them young-uns always think they can out-hike their "old"Commander, but they're always groaning by the time we do 7 or 8 miles

Re: 10 Mile hike
Well, I learned one thing about getting old and being 30 pounds overweight.
Last night, I took the boys outside with gloves, football helmets, and pugil sticks.
We had a 14 year-old (built like a young bull) who was intimidating everyone else in the competition. So I put on the gloves and went up against him.
That little scudder was tough!
He beat me in the first match, and I bet him in the second match (one match is between 2 and 5 rounds; as it takes 3 points to win a match, and one competitor scores 1 [butt side] or 2 [bayonet side] points per round).
I didn't do a third match, as I was out of gas, and he was still going strong.

Re: 10 Mile hike
Had our hike last night.
Nobody showed, except us 4. (No one gave a firm yes Wednesday)
Nothing better to do so we went anyway
beautiful day
we usualy meet at the old railroad depot downtown & hike along the old rail line (tracks were torn up in the late 70's)
in town somebody mows most of it. This section here sees a lot of use by walkers & bikes
once you get out of town it starts to close in
2 miles out of town it gets pretty overgrown
With the wet spring we had mosquito's were REALLY bad. they clouded around once the trail closed in. Even bug spray wasn't keeping them off.
So we only went 5 miles. Saw a bunch of bunnies, 1 snake & a woodchuck. took some pics of the flowers growing along the trail.

Good job for sticking with it, Chris, Christi, & Kids.

The mosquito was the State Bird, in Wisconsin.

Looks pretty out there. I need to get back out in the woods. Feel like I need a little time "beyond the towers" to get re-centered. Feeling a little stressed lately....

Are you referring to cell towers?

Stay within range of the towers!
Otherwise, Uncle Barack won't know where you are.

Re: 10 Mile hike
Definitely referring to cell towers. This little "smart" phone is nothing more than a high tech ball and chain. Albeit a profitable ball and chain at times, a ball and chain nonetheless. There have been times when I decide to just leave it in the truck or something and without fail some "important" call or email will have come through and someone is freaking out about a problem..... Simply turning it off or leaving it in the truck makes people ticked off when they couldn't get in touch. Being out in the mountains for a couple days gives a better excuse when you finally get back in touch with them.
