WOW Nights
Each year in my last RR district, they used to set a theme that was used for all the events. It was a nice way to tie everything together and provide some focus. Well, they don't do that in my new district. A few years ago, I decided that I needed something like that for my own outpost.
For example, this Sept-May I am using the theme "Up, Up, And Away - Heavenbound." On the second Wed of each month, I have a WOW night...Wild On Wednesday. What does a WOW look like? Tomorrow, the superhero focus is on Spiderman. I will share a devotion, we'll play a variety of hands-on Spiderman games, and close with a Spiderman cartoon from Netflix. WOWs are very popular with boys and commanders alike. A break in the merit chase, so to speak. And on a recent Superman night, the devotion/Holy Spirit got 7 boys to come forward for salvation. Next year, I'm planning on "Ranger Up", looking at famous cowboys, real and fictional.
Yeah, it takes up 9 meetings a year, but I have found that I can still squeeze in enough merits so the DRs and ARs can get their annual medal. And most do.

Re: WOW Nights
Spiderman games:
1) Set up a bunch of targets on a table, something like bent playing cards. Then knock them down using a can of silly string.
2) Set up a free internet Spiderman video game.
3) Using dental floss, let the boys trap a commander.
P.S. Did you see my post to you in the "Introduce Yourself" area? (Montana thread)
