2014 National Rendezvous Empty 2014 National Rendezvous

Post by strods September 25th 2013, 12:00 am

This will be our first Rendezvous. We've done a few Traces, in Iowa they are just overnighters.
For a week long Rendezvous, I was wondering if any Old Timers may have recommendations as what to focus on for a first time. I'm planning on a once a month night focus on FCF, with a lot of craft. Likely making everyone's shirt at least, if not outfit. After that I have a laundry list of "could do's". I'm looking for "should do's"
We have a shelter through district
Hunter bed Cots? for a good night sleep
Lanterns?
Chairs?
IDK?

I have been to 2 of them. Pretty much the same but bigger and food is part of the deal so not a lot of cooking.

Bring snacks.
Bring dutch oven cobblers and charcoal.
Bring soda'
Bring cots.
Change underwear every night before bed.

Pictures and reports from 2008.

Lol, may have to connect with you for a lake trip!
I am working up a design that Rangers make an FCF box that will serve as a footlocker and base for their cot. Picture a 2x1x3 box, opens on the side at the feet, some 2x4 feet at the head, & a canvas cot on top. Good night's rest and fairly PC too

Howdy!

Cots are not a necessity, in my humble opinion. Especially for younger boys. I dont carry one any more, and choose (yes choose) to sleep on the ground. A camp box is nice though to keep things organized inside a tent.

A lantern is nice for each boy, and not that expensive to make. Also a chair.
I have been carrying those folding stools with a canvas seat, and no back rest. Much easier to pack in a vehicle, and easy to transport to service and such. Boys shouldnt be sitting in a seat for very long anyways. They should be out competing or in the woods hiking or something.

As Mark said, with food mostly taken care of, just bring necessities to make a cobler at night or something. The whole kitchen box is not needed though.

What to focus on now???
Shirt and leggings, shirt and leggings. Those two along with a belt will have lads dressed and looking period enough to get by, and feel like they are in the group. Along with a knife and hawk, and flint and steel kit, they are good to go.

Post by Mark Jones July 8th 2014, 2:15 pm

We will be heading out Monday around noon. Will stop at the store to pickup snacks and drinks and such. Should be a whole lot of fun.

Will any of you be making the event?

Will most likely hit the lake for a mid day break each day so if you like a good ole fashioned swim your welcome to come along with us. I will have a 15 passenger van down there each day except on Tuesday they will be bringing in guests from our outpost.

Mark Jones 4173430463 Most likely no service down there.

Nice job, Shutterbug.

It kind-of looks like there is one Teepee "off the Reservation".

Yes we had several teepees there and 2 on stage. I had the priviege of sleeping in my marqee tent only 4 feet from Doug Marsh's tent. To my best skills I never saw anyone camping there..just the gear brand new never been used there. GRIN!

Oh how I hope and pray for a man that likes to camp and work with boys that heads of Rangers.

I think it was put up by someone else. I did see Doug pull up and drop some stuff off. That was the extent of my 4 days there in observation mode. Dougs a nice guy he just isn't interested in camping or working with boys from my observations..over the past 8 years. Never saw him at any events.

Surely that must have been noticed by others at the national level. Easily corrected. If anyone from national is reading, please establish some kind of required minimum contact for yourselves. Can't find the time? Reduce the globetrotting and busy-ness. Carry out the real business: to reach, teach and keep.

I think Mark mentioned, as National Commander, that makes him the FCF President.

OK. FCF with a President that doesn't Camp. Who could see any potential problems here?

Post by Mark Jones July 30th 2014, 4:32 pm

Just like the Obama administration I see all kinds of dropped balls all over the place. Leadership must take place at the foundational levels. Administrators that are not foundational in core are a good reason something goes a muck. I just hope and pray that the new guy they have already picked is working with boys and takes them camping...if not we won't see much change in where we are at except in more decline.

It could get worse but I sure don't want to see it got any further than it has already to the worse. Bad is bad enough but more bad is worse. GRIN!

If the new guy doesn't camp... I just may have to quit sending any money their way.

WOW,, expected more information on the Success of the 2014 event: money raised for missions, lives changed, baptism of the Holy spirit, the results form the competitions … nope

Maybe 2018 will be a better year ??
