Josiah Generation
So much bad news out there on the culture and the state of the Church. So many churches and whole denominations are putting distance between themselves and God's Word. It's a wholesale falling away, with a majority of self-proclaimed "Christians" putting their faith in the world.
"There is nothing new under the sun." Our present condition reminds me of so many Old Testament stories (warnings), but it also brings to mind what a single person can do. In Josiah's time, hardly anyone knew the Truth. One day, Scripture was found during a renovation and brought to the king's attention, where an assistant read it to him. Josiah knew the truth when he heard it, and led all Israel to follow it.
Josiah was a teenager. For the last couple of generations, we have held ever-lower expectations of teenagers. (And in recent years, the culture has encouraged young adults to live by those same lowered standards.) What we need is a generation of Josiahs. We need to train up young people to understand that there are timeless truths and standards, and to violate them means a coarsening of life and a dead future. We need them to study the Bible and find out for themselves the eternal importance of following God's Word. We need them to lead their generation to Truth.
