It's a RISEN day here in Missouri! Thank you Jesus for paying our sin debt and rising for all time as our Lord and King Jesus!

He is risen indeed. And it's been snowing all day here in Montana. At church, my daughter-in-law absently wished someone a Merry Christmas.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Yes, thank the Lord for what He has done for us!
It was a great day until the end... We had some friends over to grill out for dinner and hang out. The kids were all out riding around in the front field in the farm truck when they (my oldest son) ran over one of the dogs (his younger bother's dog) that ran in front of the truck.
Now this dog has been bumped by all of us, plus others because he was too stupid to watch out. It was only a matter of time before he got a wheel over him. The unfortunate part is that it was my 11 year old. Tough lesson for sure for him tonight. While it's true that the dog was stupid, he realizes now how easy something can go wrong (especially when someone or something stupid is around). He's taking it really hard. I told him that I'd rather it have been that dog than his baby brother that he didn't pay attention to. Yes, a hard lesson tonight for him, but hopefully he'll remember it as he grows older and be especially vigilant when behind the wheel.
I ended up putting the dog down because his rear was broken up pretty badly.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Sorry about that, Phil.
Some dogs are just "car stupid". Generally with them, it is just a matter of when, and it doesn't much matter "who".
You're right. Your son got an education that could have been a lot worse, if the victim had been different. My uncle was in the barn yard with a full-sized John Deere Tractor, and backed over his 6 year-old son with the rear tire.
FORTUNATELY for the boy, the ground was soft & he sunk into the barn yard. Also, I believe that my uncle had a front-loader full of manure as he was backing, so that changed the center of balance toward the front tires.
The kid was sore, but I don't think that he was in the hospital for more than a day. Needless to say, after that my uncle looked behind him whenever putting the tractor into reverse.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Saturday I stepped down to meat dept closer 1-10pm shifts. Upsides are I have a set schedule with Sun and Wed off ea week. No more headaches and hassles from management. Looking for other work but would like to wait unless its something big. In June we should receive another bonus and after July 5 I can cash in 3 weeks vacation. I have tentative plans to visit my nephew yet to be born in Baltimore in Aug or Sept.
I was reminded shortly after midnight of my old age with facebook notifications from friends wishing me happy birthday. One more year its all down hill lol.

I look back almost always, but there are times that I get engrossed in my work and back up blind. I usually realize that I did it and have a quick chill thinking about what would happen if one of the kids had come up to talk to me...Claymore wrote:...after that my uncle looked behind him whenever putting the tractor into reverse.
I honestly try to keep in mind if anyone is home or not when I'm working on the tractor. If nobody is home, I feel more comfortable backing up blind while doing loader work.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Nope!! I'll be 37 in October...
In all honesty I've enjoyed getting older every year and I hope that doesn't change. If ever I do start to feel down about it, I just think how dumb I used to be when I was younger and then I'm thankful again that I'm older!
I know, I know.... Some of y'all are probably sitting there thinking "I think he's pretty dumb now..." Well then just think how it was 10 years ago!

Grin. I think the same thing about myself. When I hear my son talk I think...I used to be like that.

You're one up on me then in the ownership department Mark, because when I hear younger people talk I ask myself, "Was I really like that?!?"Mark Jones wrote:When I hear my son talk I think...I used to be like that.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Here's something else scary.
I have always admired my Grandfather. He was in the Army in France during World War I.
I stumbled across one of his letters that he wrote to my grandmother, and it went something like this...
"....and what's this that I hear about Howard Kisting flirting with all of the girl-friends of us soldiers? He ought to be over here helping us to fight the Hun, so that we can finish this thing and get back home. When I get back there, I've got a mind to give him a thrashing....."
That just did not sound like the wise, confident, old gentleman that I always knew. Then it struck me. He was the same cocky 19 year-old full of vinegar as me and and thousands of other young bucks. He just grew out of it, before I met him.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
That's got to be neat having things like that from your grandfather.
I think about that as I look at older people. I sat in a group of elderly people at Easter lunch at church and had a great conversation. I guess I'm getting to the age that I recognize that they were young and dumb too at one time, but have grown out of it like you say. It's hard to exactly explain, but you know it when you feel it. You can talk to them and one one hand feel the similarities because they were once young, but then listen to things they say from the perspective of someone who has already been there and done that.
I try to tell my son that, but of course he's too young to understand. He just looks at me as dad who doesn't understand. I tell him all the time that I know exactly what he's feeling and thinking because I've already been there, but that he doesn't know what I'm thinking and feeling because he hasn't been where I am yet....

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Yes it is, and we're already 8 games into it with a 4-4 record so far.... It's amazing how much their heads effect the outcome. I can honestly say that we haven't lost one game from being out skilled by an opponent. It's always been due to stupid errors caused from them not being where they should be (head wise).
This last loss came after a 4 win streak. I knew as soon as we hit the field for warmups that we were going to lose. The boys were just too cocky.
Oh,..... but I'm sure you were talking about the big leagues Chris.

Never fails. Take the snow tires off and it snows the next day. Wife isn't saying "I told you so" this time, though. Still giddy about her new car that I'm picking up tomorrow.

Re: April 2015 Greetings thread
Yesterday was our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
So, the wife sat down on the couch next to me with a magazine and said, "Wouldn't these sofa covers be nice for us?"
I said, "Sure, fine".
"Wouldn't four of these deck chairs be good?"
"Yeah, OK."
"This deck umbrella would really be great in the summer."
"Right."
"Etc, etc."
"Yeah. Sure. OK. Right."
(Fifteen minutes later, I had OK'ed $750.00 worth of deck furniture.)
I said, "You intentionally waited until today to do this. Didn't you?"
She just smiled and nodded her head.
