Re: Want to Change the World? Start by Making Your Bed
Having gone through boot camp as a recruit and later being in charge of all the recruits, I can testify to the bed-making allegory. Learning how to do mundane tasks in an exacting manner prepares you to take on ever-increasingly complicated tasks. If you don't have the mental discipline to do the easy stuff well, you're on your way to proving the Peter Principle* early in life.
* The Peter Principle. "Everyone eventually rises to the level where they are incompetent." (Applies to everything, but especially government.) Some people get there much earlier than others. Some people are still climbing, and haven't gotten there yet. On very rare occasion, incompetent people will self-adjust to a level where they are back to being competent.
