Team Building
Looking for ideas for a team building exercise to do during a camp. We'll be going out to my dad's land in a couple weeks, so we'll have the ability to set things up more easily than if we were at a state park.
Looking for something that we can break into two smallish teams made up of ages ranging from 3rd-8th graders. Looking for something along. the lines of things like we did at NRMC, but age appropriate. This exercise will take place after breakfast Saturday morning. After the exercise we'll break camp and get the boys back to the church, which is only a 30min drive, by around 11.
I'm looking for something that we can take 30-60 minutes to do.

Re: Team Building
Divide them up into patrols. Designate a leader. Give them the goals of setting up camp. Back off and observe but do not interact. Let them setup camp as a team building exercise. The old ways work well and eventually they learn how to work together.

Re: Team Building
Yes, we do that on camp setup. I'm looking for additional games/exercise/activity for them to do Saturday morning between breakfast and breaking camp. Last time we camped, there was too much down time. I'd rather run short on time than activities.

Re: Team Building
Growing up I don't recall any team building exercises besides running camp. We just used recreational games for filler. You could condense a leadership merit and run it. They have a lot of good games to play.

Re: Team Building
Walking Wounded
-teaches teamwork and first aid drills-
on each team have at least
1 man with two broken arms
1 man unconscious
2 men blind
1 man with a broken leg
add in more if you like
the goal is for the entire team to escape from start "accident sight" to "safety" maybe 50 yards away
Jesus died for all of us, leave no man behind. Distance isn't the point, here problem solving is.
the whole point is using what every one can. the broken arms boy, can't carry but can lead and give directions
the blind can carry the unconscious, if they listen and give directions. also have to decide if they are going to hand carry or build a stretcher (let them figure it out)
a broken leg boy can still lash, but he sets the pace for the rest of them once he has a splint.
for fun, make up backstory. what's the accident? what's the danger? you could have a fire or something coming for a time limit.
have fun

Re: Team Building
good idea
Dan is right, some of the leadership merits do have some good team building exercises

I take a football to every campout I go to. Its something they can organize into a game or just throw it around if there is down time. And it requires no pre-planning on my part.
But I really like strods idea.

Re: Team Building
We always had a football game every outpost campout.

Re: Team Building
That's very 2.0 of you. Now why can't you jus expand that to make your outpost more relevant, instead of the boring camping.

Well, if you want to increase your meetings 2-3hrs 5 days a week with 1 day for a game you're welcome to it.
