Re: August 2024 Thread
I blasted past you last weekend Claymore. I considered getting in touch with you to see if you were up for company, but I was too pressed for time. Still in the throws of summer rush with the business (we're always busy with summertime school renovations).
My daughter's car had been giving us more and more problems, so I had to bite the bullet and get her something better. For some reason, Texas has good deals on cars. I found her a 2019 Miata for $5-7k cheaper in Dallas for a comparable car in the Southeast. 18k miles, single owner car with a ,clean carfax. So my daughter and I flew out to Dallas and drove it back. The MX-5 is a very small car if you're over 6', but it was fun to weave through traffic the whole way!
She moves into her apartment in Clemson next week. Now we're down to our "surprise" child at home, who just started the 6th grade.
One married almost a year, one engaged, and one going off to college. Life changes quickly...

Re: August 2024 Thread
Phillip,
I lived in Texas for 4 years (Fort Hood, Killeen, Gatesville), and it seems to me that cars WERE more reasonable there. Maybe because they last longer, as the weather tends to be dry-to-moderate, and they don't all rust out from moisture and salt.

Tell me if you've heard this one before.
Today, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox to be a "Global Health Emergency."
Well, well, well. COVID 2.0 arrives just in time for one political party to once again interfere with an election. Will we fall for it?

Talked with a local LT today. He says recruiting new police officers for the WHOLE state has tanked since the Ferguson riots. Tarring and feathering law enforcement has consequences. Chicago is short 1600 officers and the Dem convention starts tomorrow. Pro-Hamas orgs are promising 100,000 demonstrators. Not good.

Re: August 2024 Thread
Just got back tonight from moving my girl into her dorm at Clemson. It was weird when it came time to leave this afternoon. Apparently I had eaten something that was possibly giving me indigestion because I had this stabbing sensation in my chest as well as a knot in my throat, undoubtedly from some leftover piece of food that was also causing the indigestion. All while some dust storm must've been whipping up some debris because my eyes were watering like crazy! It was an odd combination of events to be sure, but I was fine leaving my only daughter at school...
The boys were a lot easier to set loose...

I raised boys.
Boys are like coyotes.
Leave food in the 'fridge and the back door unlocked, and they'll show up.

Woo Hoo! The Ronald Reagan movie comes out this coming Friday. Dennis Quaid plays the president and Jon Voigt is a Russian agent who watches him for decades.

Re: August 2024 Thread
Might have been in last month's thread where I mentioned moving my niece for the third time in a year. Well, she's told the landlord that she can't put up with the new neighbors upstairs, so he's offering her another of his places.
Will I end up being a self-named sucker again? Not likely. She's just gonna have to grow up (she's 50), deal with those people, or move herself. I'm too old to put up with it anymore.
