Re: FCF module is online
Rick Dostal and Rick Barnhouse? Both great teachers and we cross paths most months. Great men. Rick Dostal is our District FCF Scribe I work with him all the time as Company Clerk he is also National Staff Advisor. Rick has asked me to just let it alone when it comes to the things I disagree with. He has advised me If it's good it will go if it's not it won't be around long. I really enjoy Rick Dostal. A great man of God and a great leader.
Also Rick Barnhouse is our District Training Coordinator as well as Regional Staff.
Both try hard to be team players and both also realize there is more truth in the Bible then the wisdom of men.
I poke fun at the personality profiles. I like what Richard Marriot said when he was asked about having great staff. He said you know. I just inivte them for a 2 night campout and well after that you get to know them real well...grin!
I have the utmost respect for Richard Marriot. He was often seen at our local sectional and outpost events. His grandson and son in law are very active in our District. A great team of Rangers and leaders. All we needed to do to tweak his RR program was to remove 90% of the writing and redo the cheezy Bible studies...both of these he didn't have direct handling on.
Rick Barnhouse graduated with hi honors from the Local Baptist College there in Bolivar. A fun guy with many many talents. Since he has been on Regional Staff he hasn't been near as involved in our Local level stuff. Probably not enough time to do it all. He gets on me from time to time on my opinions..GRIN!
Again great men of God and great Ranger Leaders. Enjoy camping with these guys. They have a real heart for Rangers and pointing boys to Christ by example and teaching.
None of us are perfect but we try.

Re: FCF module is online
Simeon, I do agree with you on making it a 8-12 hr seminar. I don't get why it has to be overnight. Same for the new Training Academy is an overnighter. The ICS seminar for new instructors was just a day event. Successful outpost module was a day event. Why both now need to go overnight I don't know.
Too much time and promoting the personality tests. If you're honest it is very accurate. Yet, it is not an indicator of the heart or whom God chooses to do a certain job. I'd never ask anyone to take his test.

Re: FCF module is online
It's funny to me. WCO is over night 2 days. That is one of the reasons they did a way with the LTC of the old days. It just took up too much time. GRIN! They said the training to be successful must be able to be held in a 8 hour shift.
So round and round the merry go round we go again. HAR!
I enjoyed the old LTC days. I also enjoyed the LTA days.
http://readyrangers.tzo.com/icsrolla.htm
2nd row from the front 3rd person over is me in 2004. 2 years later I became a Instructor Trainer. Then the Rick Warren teachings started into play. Accountabiilty Partners and such. Had to get out of that or the Holy Spirit would have whooped me.
I look forward to the days when our training is after God's own heart and we have left the foolishness of man and his psyco bable. God is a jealous God. He really does not like being put up in a box and us telling folks oh ya we believe in the Holy Spirit but we have this 10 step program that fits our needs better. After all you will feel better being able to touch flesh and blood when your confessing your sins one to another. (MAJOR BLUNDER don't be suckered into it). Tell God the Holy Spirit your faults..after all He is really the only one that can really help you with them.
When someone comes riding on a "we have a book for you to study " BEWARE! God's Word by HIS HOLY SPIRIT IS ENOUGH.
I was once dupped by the Jehovah's Witnesses. Book studies, We have devine revelation. It's not long before you will be brainwashed to only accept their teaching and folks they don't believe in God the Holy Spirit. They call "that's just Gods power" closer than a brother, Comforter, Teacher, uh.. I see alot of "Spirit Filled Religious organizations that are more like the Jehovah's Witnesses in this respect. Puting their faith in their works and their schemes instead of simply Christ and what He has done for us at the Cross of Calvary. There in lies the power of the Holy Spirit that will come to the aid and TEACH US.
Want good teaching. Ask God for His Help. He will help us.
If you want to learn about the FCF do the trail of the grizzly merits and bring as many boys as you can.

Re: FCF module is online
Mark, yes. Both Ricks.
I agree with your comments about them from what I saw last weekend. I was impressed with both of their teaching styles also. They know how to relate material to us in a way that is interesting. They both had their own notes, and only occasionally read out of the book.

Re: FCF module is online
My WCO experience (2009) was a mixed bag of instructors. There were 2 who were excellent & made the material interesting & another who read it straight from the power point in as dull a way as possible.
While I rarely find things to agree on with him this days, Jim Barger is an excellent teacher.

Re: FCF module is online
I have never met Jim at a personal level. At National Councils he has given some pretty good sessions and some pretty bad sessions..depending on if he is going to kick you off the bus or not. GRIN! After listening to his last audio file on kicking folks off the bus. I just basicly wrote it off as no longer tune in. It's wrong teaching and I don't want to be associated with it.
We are human and it's in our nature to remember the one BIG FAIL over 20 years of winning and doing it right. I for one need the atonement of Jesus to cover me because in my own self there is more bad than good. I am thankful Christ is my covering and not some fallen man somewhere.
There is a large chunck of our leadership that most certainly have not thought this trip up fools mountain through. Hopefull one day the light will indeed come on. For now they are Boldy going where Every man has gone... up fools mountain. GRIN!

Re: FCF module is online
Hopefully, I won't be getting a but tonight's bible study was centered on:
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
So reminds me a lot of what we talked about.

Re: FCF module is online
I think they might have something there on the profiling thing. Dan "I can hijack a thread in 20 seconds or less" Bennett.
I think if you try and tie all this into a Frontier Adventure with green horns on their way into camp you might have a chance of getting off of the profile...second thought..no chance at all. GRIN!

Yet you still got me to laughing about the forum cop per. I think a networked shock collar would be more online of what we need here.
To save my own hide. I think that any training we get is better than no training.

Re: FCF module is online
There always needs to be a target in life.... You just happen to be it because we think you're a worthy one.
And to tie it back to the topic... wait for it...
We all need targets in life to keep us on track. Being trained is a target (or should be) and can be accomplished in a veriety of ways.
