Baking while Backpacking
Ok. This weekend our group of 14 Rangers and Friends of Rangers are going backpacking 2.5 miles in over some extreme trail. 2 river crossings in and trail goes up and down as it follows the Richland Creek from the Richland Creek Campground in Arkansas.
So Saturday night we are having a ole fashioned dessert cook off. Well at least I am. GRIN! Will see what the others bring to the fire.
Backpacking gear is all ultra light but rugged. Pack weight is about 43 lbs with food average. I added some new gear this trip so it's brining my pack weight up 8 pounds. YEA!
Going to have them laughing on Saturday night. Report and pictures will be posted here when we get back. Always fun.

I added a second rack by buying two of these and taking the second baking rack from the second oven and putting it in the first oven. Also using my backpacking grill with that. 2 alum piepans with second baking shelf and the backpacking grill it comes to 8lbs. We are following Richland Creek so no need to carry any water on this trip. Will filter that using the gravity works filter.
I have a video to upload of my cooking experiments out in the garage on Sat morning. There are ovens out there for 3 times the money. 24.66 is what I paid twice on sale for each oven.
I am looking for a bakers hat as well to pop out..but I can get close to it with a hard hat cover...grin. Going to tell the guys that I have spent my whole life telling your certified card carrying backpackers to go lite...well today I have something really new... and I put on the bakers had and pull out the oven and bake them up some culinary cherry bacon wraps with icing on them for desert on Saturday night. Gotta have some fun with them.
Now if one of them wants a backpacking oven they can carry it back out.... ha!
Those cherry pie turnovers were perfect. I am cooking pizza as well on Saturday night...Never done any baking on a backpacking stove until now...
My backpacking buddies are always ranting about how good their steaks are and neat stuff they bring to cook...so I declared a desert cook off..or not. Grin. Men and their grilling...around the campfire. We have fun. I have always been one for easy and pretty much cook for myself exception is pop corn and donuts that I share and can feed 50 with those on a backpacking stove. So Saturday night I am going to contend for the chef trophy... might be a rock or a fossil we find there. Loads of them in that area.
Fun and exploration is always good.

Report on our Backpacking Trip with video. My baking was fun but it didn't turn out like I had planned. Here is the report of just what did happen.
