Odd Calibers You Would Like to Shoot
Ok, because Dan obviously disapproved of me resurrecting an old thread.... ... I'll start a new one.
What odd calibers have you shot lately, or would like to shoot? I'm personally on the .22 TCM kick. I also like that it's essentially two guns in one. The same mags are used between 9mm and the .22 TCM and you just change the barrel. Definitely a novelty piece.
Anything caught your eye lately?

Re: Odd Calibers You Would Like to Shoot
I am in process of building a .45 Super.
It develops from 619 to 694 foot/pounds of energy. I have the pistol, heavy springs, brass, dies, and bullets.
For "plinking", I have shot .45+P through it. I haven't gotten into the really hot stuff, yet.

I would really like to have had the opportunity to shoot a 16.0 caliber. (One of my ship COs was the last captain of the Missouri.) My personal best is a 3.0 caliber.

Was reading up on the 45 super a bit. What gun are you using? So basically, if I understand this, if you load a traditional 45 case with modern powder it will split it? So the old cases were just too thin?Claymore wrote:I am in process of building a .45 Super.

Re: Odd Calibers You Would Like to Shoot
It is supposed to be specially heat-treated brass. +P brass has a thicker web, just above the case head (because of lack of support over the feed ramp in many pistols). .45 Super brass is supposed to be a notch above that.
I am using a Smith & Wesson 4506. That frame was actually made to be a 10mm (S&W 10-06). They just girlie-down the springs, a bit, and put in a fully supported .45 barrel.
I girlie-upped the springs, and put in cases that are loaded to the gun's capabilities.
(You can pick a 45-06 pretty cheap on Gunbroker - less than $500.00, if you look around.)

You may see a Commissioned Officer shoot a 16.0 caliber, but you will never see him operate (which means swab, clean, & maintain) a 16.0 caliber.
And I guess that my personal largest were an 81mm mortar and a 90mm Recoilless Rifle. (Of course, I had to carry those, and set them up - - and then, clean & oil them.)

Re: Odd Calibers You Would Like to Shoot
Been really wanting to try 10mm. I heard and read a bit about 10mm. Anyone have experience with that caliber?
