Post by Mark Jones July 24th 2018, 5:31 pm

Here is this years boat build. Cardboard and facilities came into question this year so the Hamster Wheel Boat will show up maybe next year. For now.....

This is the Best Boat I have ever built. It uses all the best tips. I have 29 hours into it. I call it NO SINK!

Added pictures of the build as I went. Also added some great information about building boats as well as some links to Educational Training on boat design and means and ways.

Ranger Database has Regatta Race software in it as well. Here is the boat build for 2018.

Hey! I went through every picture...and the finished product wasn't there. C'mon, Mark. Don't keep us in suspense.

It's still under development. In Rangers last night we made airplanes, control towers and Aircraft carrier sub deck.

A hours worth of work yet it's heading in the right direction. Hopefully we will have a work day this sunday and next sunday afternoons.

It will float for a long time as it sits. Just need to deck it out!

I will take more pictures and add them to this link.

Cardboard Boat Regatta Empty Re: Cardboard Boat Regatta

Post by Mark Jones July 30th 2018, 12:04 pm

I think it was more like this..."This boat won't sink"  so we don't need a bunch of life boats hanging around.

"No Sink" is my pet name.  Real name is "SS Pastor Daren Roten"  that means there are extra jets on board and extra boats just in case ….GRIN!

My wife told Pastor sunday "How's it feel to know your name will be on a boat that is sitting at the bottom of the lake"  GRIN!  WE had a good laugh.

Boys will be carrying it through the sanctuary Sunday morning just before church starts with a short 2 minute video on the race.

Trying to stir up the "spirit" for the regatta.  I hope the Lord blesses us with great weather and wonderful testimonies.

I beard they based lifeboats on weight of the ship not capacity of souls it carried. Seems like a no brainer to add crew and pax and divide by lifeboat capacity.

Cardboard Boat Regatta Empty Re: Cardboard Boat Regatta

Post by Mark Jones August 19th 2018, 7:38 am

Will have to agree. The mind of man is a real puzzle. In somethings we excel and in other ways were dumber than a rock. The hard part is figuring the when and the where it all goes dumb. It seems when a dumb method comes around it takes years to flush it out of the methods.

In 2006 we headed down a "I felt dumb" method in our Royal Rangers. "I voiced it" I was labeled a trouble maker with about 70% of the folks. Soon they kickd most of us off the bus. Grin. When we as Christians foster a "New Idea" New Paradyne Shift" New Cultural Change" or what ever you call it it's still has to line up with God's Word. When the Bible says the harvest is great and the workers are few and we think we can change that....."we put on the fools hat and parade around with it for years and years" Seems like a great idea to make every boys a life long servant leader. Yet Bible says that won't happen. Who will you believe? We rely on our carnal ways and follow them....well most of us will for a while.

We are at 70% of our AG churches don't have Royal Rangers. Let's go back to the system that worked for 25 years that captured the minds and hearts of men and boys all across this nation and pointed them all to Jesus Christ and his Church using a handful of tried and trued methods. Being all and all to everyone is a pipe dream that never works. Folks just walk away from a do it all tool that tool never really preforms as well as the tool that is specific and designed to do something like a LIFEBOAT. WE need LIFEBOATS and we need to return to ideas that work. NO MORE GREAT IDEAS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PROVEN TO WORK. Were sick of the failure of that. Time to get back to meat and potatoes.

Went to our Ranger Kids day camp yesterday. Used to be 175 there. Now were down to under 45. Ship needs a course correction.

Sounds like my church, which went from 300 to 80 before the course correction. During that multi-year slide, there was an aimless series of wandering tweaks, none of which had any effect, because the core problem was never addressed. Speaking nautically, the sooner you make a course correction (to avoid a danger), the smaller (and less painful) it needs to be. Yet the Rules of the Road warns mariners not to make it so small that other ships can't discern it.

I know that the current RR leadership in Springfield has made purposeful tweaks to the program, but I wonder if they've been too small for those outside to recognize that RR has changed course. Or do 70% of church pastors think it's still floundering? When is the last time that RRs was promoted by Springfield's non-RR leadership?
