Some of us were busy the last couple of days, cataloguing updated intelligence from our monitoring of May Day activities.

Surprised that it was actually done, but certainly not displeased. FBI Director Comey was an embarrassment to the Bureau since last summer and had to go. "You're fired!"

I do feel bad for him. He made decisions that were above his authority, and he cranked off everyone (on both the Left and the Right). As a Law Enforcement Officer, he should have let the weight of Going Public with Incomplete Evidence on the Prosecutor's (Attorney General) Office.
He made a couple of bad decisions and screwed up. That is a subject with which I have some experience, and can speak with a degree of authority.
It's kind-of like skipping the Chain of Command and going to the Inspector General's Office with a Complaint. You can do it, but you'd better make sure that all of your Ducks are in a Row before you do.

Re: May 2017 Thread
Today after school I helped interview a teacher applicant. He's a math major who graduated from our school 4 years ago. We're definitely hiring him. I noticed something in his resume and asked him about it. "Yeah, I didn't give my life to the Lord until after I went to college. I was just playing along for 12 years."
So we continue to get confirmation of the necessity of changing the way we do Bible classes. After the applicant left, I turned to the rest and said, "What if our Bible classes were electives? You know, optional." The principal's eyes got wide and I added, "Elective Bible classes that were so awesome, everyone signed up for them. That's what they have to be like."
The work starts Tuesday.

Absolutely!
We do NOT have a specific age at which the boys go from Rangers to Youth Group. Some go at 12, some go at 15.
I try to make the Program interesting enough that some of the boys WANT to remain in Rangers, and a few have (until Pizza and Girls eventually become more luring than Model Rockets, Pugil Sticks, and Competitive Shooting).

Our mountains got snow last night. If the steer manure I was working with this morning was any fresher, it would have been steaming. Would've been easier on the hands, too.
Another demonstration of why they say never plant anything until after Mother's Day.

Bit of a Drop in Status from being the Commander of an Assault Ship, isn't it?

Re: May 2017 Thread
Just got back from Pow Wow with the boys. We only had four boys go (two were my sons) and it was a chore for me to even go. Things have been so busy lately and I was just not really in the mood to go. I did anyway, but with much aggravation, hurried preparation, and forgotten items.
When we got to the camp we were greeted with new stricter regulations at the camp. Apparently governmental and insurance regulations forced their hands to make everything "safer" (read: "not as much fun"). I forced a good attitude for the boys sakes and we trudged through the weekend. The skits were fairly humorous as usual and the theme and message were solid.
The last night rolled around and Holy Spirit really moved. I answered the drawing myself and went down front to pursue Father more closely. I still read the Word most mornings and pursue God, but there's always room for a closer relationship. Then I looked to my left at the alter and realized my two sons were beside me crying their eyes out before the Lord. THIS is what Rangers is about! THIS is what Pow Wow is about! Get the boys (and commanders) away from the rat race for a few days into an environment that is pleasant to the Holy Spirit and watch what happens. We prayed and snotted on each other and found ourselves in the same "zone" with the Lord, crying out to Him for closer relationship.
I'd love to see my kids be successful in life, but no matter what they do vocationaly, as long as they are seeking the Father's face they will have found true success.
So that was my weekend, what's new with you fellas?

Re: May 2017 Thread
Good report, Phillip. I was thinking the other day of attending our state's Pow Wow by my lonesome, just to be able to experience the same. But my wife reminded me of our own camping trip during the same weekend.
Saturday was spent tripling the size of the garden with a bigger deer fence. Never had a problem with birds going after the raspberries before, but a neighbor says they will hit the strawberries when they ripen. So I'll have to get some kind of mesh "roof".
This morning was my think tank class at church. We're up to a dozen folks, all wanting to figure out how to reduce the percentage of kids who walk away from their faith.

One thing that we have growing pretty well are Blueberries. However, the birds love them, and they get up earlier than I do.
My wife said to a neighbor, "How do you keep the birds from eating all the blueberries?"
The neighbor replied, "Plant enough for the birds, too."

Re: May 2017 Thread
Think I'm going to put another Pow Wow on our schedule. Talked to the state director for IPHC Rangers this morning and he said we were welcome to attend. They hold it in October, so we'll have a Pow Wow in the fall and then also early summer with the AG.

Re: May 2017 Thread
Last night was our last ministry gig with children. Time to pass the torch after 35 years. I think the pastor kept hoping we'd change our minds because he just now sent out an e-mail asking for new volunteers. No idea what he plans for Wed, but on Sun he wants the children to get the same message the adults are getting that week. I've heard of this in other places, but don't know how effective it is. Seems like it would be a lot of work, and probably with short prep time every week.
Our youth group is growing, being led by two volunteer couples, one of them our nephew and his wife. We're going to meet with them this weekend and suggest the possibility of splitting the group into 6-8 and 9-12. And we would help them do whichever group they get.

Are you good with this? Meaning, is this your first choice, or it just the best option given the circumstances?joecool wrote:Last night was our last ministry gig with children. Time to pass the torch after 35 years.

Let's put it this way. When our church was bigger, and we had 40 kids in a class, it was easy to manage. Ten years later, we have 10 kids, and they're rude, undisciplined and disrespectful. Things have changed, and I no longer want to babysit other people's kids.

I definitely understand the difference a generation makes.
