Annual Awards changing

Well the times  they is a changing. ..

I emailed in the first Gold falcon application on Sunday. Would be the first in Canada.  I get an email back this morning  from National saying "as or October 21,2016, you can just order this direct from MHC. They are no longer being listed in the database.  Same goes for the other annual awards in DR/AR/ER.  Gold Eagle/GMA/E3 are still restricted.

I am so glad they communicated this to everyone.  I just did my big order last week on Thursday.

Jeremy, welcome to the Trenches!

When you were in the Military, were you ever in a unit in which all information went into the Headquarters Building, with the big flagpole in front, and no information came out? Kind-of same-same here.

Best way to remain sane is to not get too worked up about it.

Now, in National Headquarters' defense (mark this day on your calendar, folks) it may be in response to input from Commanders in the Field. Headquarters had centralized the issuing authority on many awards that had previously been authorized at Local Level, and many-many Commanders were unhappy with it.

So maybe, they did the right thing, but did a poor job of communicating it.

I was in a Special Forces Unit, over 20 years ago. We had a simulated Combat Operation, in which we were to parachute in, make contact with the indigenous guerrilla force, and help to give them aid and steer them in the direction of our own national interests.

So we were told that this was a covert mission, and that we were not to have any U.S. markings on our uniforms. As they were not going to issue new "clean" uniforms for a training mission, we put duct tape over our patches and parachute wings and Army markings to simulate that the uniforms were sterile.

Then they said that this was not a highly covert mission, and that we could wear our uniforms with patches, so we took the duct tape off.

Then Headquarters said that it IS a covert mission, and we covered our patches with tape, again.

This became an inside joke. Right up until we boarded the airplane for the jump, whenever the smallest thing changed, we would start to say, "Tape, no-tape. Tape, no-tape."

For years after that mission, whenever we put work into a project that got changed by Headquarters, we would say, "Tape, no-tape." The guys that came to the unit after that mission never quite got the joke.

Yes, I totally know what your talking about...I was just expressing frustration at the lack of communication. The website has still not be update, as all the applications are still posted.

I guess I'd rather have them be slow to implement good changes than quick to implement bad ones...
